breaking during the lesson.
Skill:
2. Students will demonstrate their learning through the use of an exit slip at then end of
the lesson.

Key Questions:

world?

Notes for individual students

Preparation:
Prepare board quiz questions
Load youtube video
Prepare powerpoint and notes for students

Adaptations:
Students will be provided notes if the teacher deems fit. Students may also be given extra
time to complete their board quiz.

Lesson Procedure:
1. Begin the lesson with a quick board quiz for students to hand in to be assessed. Write
the questions on the board and get students to write the question, their answer, and their
name on their piece of paper. Have them mark their neighbours once everyone is
finished answering the questions.
2. Collect board quizzes and do a quick review of what was included on them. Segway
into the continued conversation about the impact globalization has had on our world.
3. Introduce the topic of ship building and ship breaking, two jobs with high amounts of
environmental impacts. Ask students why we might be examining such a specific
occupation in regards to environmental impact.
4. Conduct a lesson on ship building and breaking. Use a powerpoint to solidify your
points and ask students to take notes as you teach. Provide notes for students who may
need them.
5. Ask students how they believe this relates not only to globalization but economic
globalization.
6. Start the documentary The Wire Nest about ship-breaking in India. Tell students they
will not be required to complete a worksheet during the video but will need to complete
an exit slip following the documentary so they will still need to pay attention.
7. Pause the video at parts you deem necessary to provoke discussion in the classroom.
8. At the end of the video, ask each student to come up with two or three interesting facts
they heard while watching the documentary. Ask them to submit them to you on a piece
of paper with their name on it to ensure each of them were paying attention.
9. Tell students at the end of the lesson that there will be an assignment for them due on
Thursday April 16 that you will introduce on Monday April 13. Remind them to catch up
on chapter questions during Easter break.

Assessment:
A board quiz will be used to assess how well students are understanding and retaining
material in this chapter. Students will also submit a sheet following the documentary to
show they were paying attention during it.

Enrichment:
Further ship building and breaking videos will be shown. The news will also be shown.
Students will be reminded to continue working on their chapter questions.
