DLink Wireless Router (DL-524)

Setup Instructions
ONE : Power up the router and plug the blue network
cable from the network card on your PC to one of the
four LAN ports on the back of the router.
TWO : Make sure your PC is set to obtain an IP
automatically. For Windows XP, go to "Start" then "All
Programs", "Accessories", "Communications" and click
on "Network Connections". Right click on your "Local
Area Connection" and select "Properties" from the menu.
Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" from the list and
click on the Properties button.
Make sure the two dots are in their respective "Obtain
automatically"option.

THREE : Open your web browers, and type


"http://192.168.0.1" into the address bar. You should
be presented with a login window.
The default login info is "admin" for the user name,
and an empty password.

FOUR : Ignore the wizard, and instead click


the "Wireless" button on the left menu.
Set the "Network SSID" to something that
will identify your wireless network such as
your name.
The "Channel" can be set to any number
between 1 and 13 inclusive.
Unless you know you need a different
security setting, set "Security" to "WPAPSK" with the encryption set to "TKIP".
Type in a "Preshare Key" that will be used as
a password by an laptops connecting to your
wireless network.
Click "Apply" and wait a few seconds while
the router restarts.

FIVE : Select the "WAN" option from the


left menu.
Under the "WAN settings" heading, select
the "PPPoE" option.
Under the "PPP over Ethernet" heading,
select "Dynamic PPPoE". Enter your
"User Name" (the first part of your email
address) and "Password" into the
appropriate fields.
Leave the "Service Name" field blank.
Set the "Maximum Idle Time" to "0" and
the "MTU" to "1470".
Change the "Connect mode select" to
"Always-on".
Click "Apply" and wait a few seconds
while the router restarts. You should now
be on the internet.
