GAMELAN MUSIC
This unit introduces pupils to the Gamelan music of
Bali and Indonesia. The project includes
opportunities to listen, compose and perform while
building and reinforcing previous knowledge of
rhythmic notation, form and structure, and
dynamics. Pupils will also discover the historical and
cultural background of Samba music.
WINTER SONG
Fitting words and music together for a specific
occasion, within a carefully planned structure
Cross curricular links are made with English, as a
complete set of lyrics will be completed by each
group.
Groups are expected to sing, and perform a
complete song, using instruments and the
accompaniment feature on the keyboards.
THE MUSIC OF THE BEATLES
Develop awareness of how The Beatles influenced
pop music of the 1960s and music today.
Learn to play and sing Beatles songs in group/class
ensembles, fitting parts in with others. Learn about
chords and how they are used and constructed in
pop songs.

GROUND BASS
Ground Bass and Canons This unit builds on
knowledge gained from the previous unit
(Variations). The work on variations is developed
further by introducing the use of Ground bass with
students completing a composition in canon form.

MUSICALS
Having learned about musicals in general, the pupils
then spend some time learning about the show they
will come and see; they sing and listen to songs to
make them more familiar and, if practical, play some
of the songs on keyboards.

FORM AND STURCTURE


This unit develops pupils' ability to recognise,
explore and use different musical structures and
understand how they can create different effects.
During the unit they learn about the importance of
contrast and variety in musical structures. They
learn how to sing a 'call and response' song and
explore ostinato accompaniments (rhythmic and/or
melodic). They create and develop pieces in both
ternary and simple rondo form, making connections
between the structure and its impact on the
listener.
