Seasons: What Am I?

The student will investigate and understand weather and seasonal changes. Key

a)
changes in temperature, light, and precipitation affect plants
and animals including humans;

there are relationships between daily and seasonal changes; and

changes in temperature, light, and precipitation can be observed
and recorded over time.

C. Supplies Needed Leaves


Acorn
Apple
Pumpkin
Corn
Sand
Goggles
Sun glasses
Flip flop
Sea shells
Recording sheet
Brown paper bags- 10
Pencil
Double tree worksheet

D. Procedure-

1. Have the students come to the rug in number order to begin the
lesson.
2. Read the book Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf by Lois Ehlert
3. Introduce the What Am I? sensory activity.
Tell the students they will be using their sense of touch to
figure out what the item is and what season it belongs to
and record it on the sheet.
Talk about not looking in the bag or destroying whats in
the bag.
Demonstrate one bag to the students.
Reach your hand in and then touch the object- DO NOT
LOOK IN THE BAG!!!!
Then record it on the worksheet.
4. Let the students work together in their groups.
Put two bags on each table and give the students the
recording sheet.
Give the students 4 minutes to explore the bag and feel
what is inside. Have the students close their eyes and look
away when feeling in the bag. Then have them rotate
clockwise to the next station.
Once everyone is finished have them bring their recording
sheets to the rug.
5. At the carpet let a few students share what they think is in bag
one and what season it is found in.
Then reveal what was in the bag.
6. Once done send the students back to their seats.
7. Pass out the trees worksheet- they fill in the tree to make it look
like it would in the fall and summer.
8. Collect this for a grade.
