Disarmament and International Security Committee
DISEC is a commission destined to disarm and prevent conflicts before or during their most
violent moments. However, contrary to what The Security Council does, the DISEC
emphasises on neutralizing the danger and power of weaponry, and so open an opportunity
for a more peaceful resolution to prevail, and for a conflict to be resolved effectively. DISEC
is the first committee of the General Assembly, and holds an extremely important role in the
development of a peaceful world, like the one envisioned by the United Nations
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Topic 1: Background Information
Drugs have caused havoc, disorder, and mass murders for decades now, and they have
been a problem not only for health and social relationships, but also for the political and
defence areas. The reason for this being that as drugs are illegal in most countries, they
produce a lot of economic resources, which can be spent by traffickers in whichever way
they wish. This mass accumulation of wealth, unfortunately, is spent greatly on weapons to
defend and protect their illicit businesses, and that, in turn, has given drug traffickers even
more power over the government and the citizens around us.
This commission has the unique purpose of disarming the drug traffickers, not specifically
through action, although that might be an alternative, but through the restriction of weapon
access to drug traffickers.

Threaded within this conflict also lays the discussion of how to identify drug traffickers, for if
it were obvious, governments would already have identified and caught most of them. They
obviously havent, and so this commission should devise a strategy to pinpoint those
individuals and groups who pose a direct threat to the international community through the
traffic of illicit drugs.
Drug trafficking mafias all around the world have been gaining more power and control than
some of the authorities, and there have been huge conflicts in which decisions have been
badly taken because of the fear that these armed mafias cause for the private and public
entities, as well as for the citizens themselves. Politically the mafias have affected the
evolution of multiple countries, and have diminished the life quality, security and internal
economy as well.
Gun control has been a controversial topic all around the world, the variety ranging from
countries in which weapon possession is completely legal for all the consumers under the
pretext of self-defence, to countries where it is considered an abomination because of their
destructive power. Both of these cases contribute to the acquirement of weapons for illicit
purposes.

If the opposition disarms, well and good. If it refuses to disarm, we shall

disarm it ourselves. Joseph Stalin
One man with a gun can control 100 without one Vladimir Lenin
No weapon has ever settled a moral problem. It can impose a solution but it
cannot guarantee it to be a just one. Ernest Hemingway
It's not a gun control problem; it's a cultural control problem. Bob Barr
Guiding questions:
1
What makes a person or group a drug trafficker?
2
What makes them have so much power?
3
Is there a reason to stop or alter what they are doing?
4
How should we disarm drug traffickers?
5
Is there a need for military intervention?
6
Where do these cartels acquire their weaponry?
