LOOKING BACK
Moses: The Ultimate Journey

And
Exodus 1:1-14
What do you do when the promises of God dont seem to jive with reality? On one hand, you
have the promise, and on the other hand problems. This certainly describes the Israelites
during their bondage in Egypt. And if were honest, it describes much of our experience with
God as well. While it doesnt make all the questions go away and it doesnt remove the pain of
a season in Egypt, we find that embracing the bigger story, Gods story, gives us hope and
meaning in the struggle.
Working it Out
1. Why is it important to hold on to the promises of God?

2. Why do you think it is a tendency for Christians to hold on to the promise but let go of
reality?

3. What does it look like to deal with reality?

4. When you consider the magnitude of Gods story and your small part in it, what
emotions do you feel? What attitudes begin to surface?

LOOKING AHEAD
Moses: The Ultimate Journey

The Man
Exodus 2:21
If you have ever doubted whether our background and life experiences can affect us
well down the road, pay attention now! Our journey is very personal and profound.
While Moses became a great man of God and was used mightily in Gods plan, his
journey was anything but easy.
Working It Out
1. Begin in Acts 7:1-43 to get a good overview of Moses life and how he fit into
Gods purposes. (Note especially the chronology of v.23 and 30)

Take appropriate notes.

2. Lets jump back to Exodus 2:22. Moses is 40 years old. He has taken a wife,
and had his first child. What did Moses name him and why?

3. How does the name of his son give us insight into where Moses was
emotionally and personally at this stage of his life? Think this one through
slowly.

4.

What are some of the experiences that have shaped him during the first 40 years of his
life? (see Exodus 2:1-22)
