Dear Maggie:
I have had the privilege of working with you for approximately sixteen
months while you served as a graduate assistant in the Department of
Housing & Residence Life. As Director of the department, I have a unique
perspective from which to observe your skills, accomplishments, and growth.
Maggie, I find you to be extremely professionalmore so than many of us
with far more experience. You have been an incredible asset to our team for
so many reasonshere are just a few:
1. Dependability: The RD for your building recently left us for another
position. This occurred in the middle of the school year, leaving the
building without a full-time staff member. You have been instrumental
in filling in the gaps as we transitioned to a new RD. And through it all,
you demonstrated a positive attitude and a high level of
professionalism.
2. Organized and detail-oriented: A perfect example of this skill area is
your success in managing all of your additional responsibilities after
the departure of your RD. You received the task, made the necessary
connections, and made it happen. This assisted greatly with balancing
out the workload for other team members and allowed everyone to
relax because they knew the job would be done.
3. Commitment to diversity and social justice: You live and breathe this
commitment and there is no one who could question its existence as a
building block of what makes you special. You demonstrate pride in
where you have been, where you are, and where you are yet to go.
You challenge others to enrich their lives through awareness,
compassion, and love.
4. Calm, rational, and approachable: You have a way about you that
keeps everyone calm, even in situations of high stress. You make great
connections with staff, students, and colleagues because of your
approachable and warm personality. And to top it off, you have a great
energy and sense of humor!

You care immensely about the quality of your work and are someone who I
trust and value as a member of our team. You hold yourself to high
standards, are passionate about your work, and demonstrate enthusiasm for
the things you care deeply about.
I have no doubt that you will tackle your career with the same enthusiasm
you have shown in so many other areas of your life. I am extremely pleased
that you have been part of our team as you are someone who truly grows
and becomes stronger with each challenge you face.
I look forward to calling you a peer and welcoming you into the field of
student development!
Respectfully,
Kathleen Baker
