Professional Semester II Goals

In the six weeks that I will be teaching in a high school Social Studies
classroom, I would like to focus on improving the following two goals.
Both are issues I noticed during my first professional semester in a
grade one classroom and feel are extremely important in this new
setting I will be teaching.
My PSII goals are:
1. Use formative assessment at least once a lesson to check on
student understanding and use that formative assessment to
guide future lessons
a. I will attempt to reach this goal by presenting students with
exit slips, asking them key questions, looking over their
work and providing feedback, and having students do selfassessments (on both effort and understanding)
b. I will take this information and use it to help reflect on the
effectiveness of my lessons and whether or not students
were able to achieve what I wanted them to
2. Improve my classroom management skills and abilities
a. I will step in as soon as I see something that should not be
happening (i.e. students on their phones, students not
working on the assignment)
b. I will not talk/ give instructions until students are paying
attention to me and quite
c. I will work on my teacher voice so that students listen the
first time I ask them to do something.
Each week, I will reflect on how well I achieved my goals that week and
what I need to do to either improve upon my effort or keep it going so
that at the end of six weeks I can say I have met my goals.
