Mission Statement
Aircraft Type: Single Pilot ,Air Superiority Fighter
Mission:
Air to Air area control(primary)
Air to Ground, Close Air Support (CAS)

Introduction
In todays world of three-dimensional warfare, asserting dominance over the
aerial battlefield ensures dominance over disputed territory. The class of aircraft
specifically designed to carry out this mission through their dogfighting skills and
superior firepower are referred to as Air Superiority combat aircraft. Since they are
more expensive compared to modern multi role fighters most nations purchase these
specialized aircraft in small numbers, yet they form the central core of any air force and
are essential to ensure air supremacy.

Mission Profile
The mission profile described here is a typical Hi-Lo-Hi Air superiority mission which
involves the aircraft entering the combat region from a higher altitude, exerting air
dominance for a given period of time and leaving the area of engagement.

Fig 1.1 Mission Profile

The basic mission profile of the aircraft includes the following steps:
1-2

Take-off

2-3

Climb

3-4

Cruise at Mach 0.9 for 600 km at 30000 ft

4-5

Supercruise at Mach 1.6 at 25000 ft into battle

5-6

Combat for 15-20 min

6-7

Dash at Mach 2 at 25000 ft

7-8

Cruise at Mach 0.9 for 600 km at 30000 ft

8-9

Loiter for 15 min at 15000 ft

9 -10

Landing

Performance Requirements
Max Rate of climb:

~300 m/s

Max Instantaneous turn rate:

~25 deg/s at 25000 ft

Max Speed:

Mach 2.4 at 25000 ft

Service Ceiling:

55000 ft

Combat Radius(on internal fuel):

700 km

Desired Characteristics
To give the airplane an edge over currently operational aircrafts of similar category, we
strive to have the following characteristics, while not compromising on the feasibility of the
design.

High Speed, Maneuverability and Agility to outperform and out maneuver other
aircraft.
Ability to Supercruise to ensure high getaway speeds without the use of
afterburners.
Low Observability and Low Radar Detectability to reduce the effectiveness of other
fighter aircrafts during dogfights, SAMs and ground tracking RADAR.
Sufficient payload to ensure ample amount of Air to Air missiles can be carried into
battle.
