Overview

Tiger P.R.I.D.E (physical education, recreation, inclusion, development and

enjoyment) is an internship created by the Health Exercise and Sport Pedagogy

Department in order to develop the skills of the undergraduate students in
engaging in improving their teaching practices to better prepare themselves to
become professional educators. As part of the Delivery Team (DT) my job is to
promote physical education as well as improve my overall skills in instruction
through active instruction, lesson planning, and reflectiontobetterandefficiently
educate my students. This week in TigerP.R.I.D.EIdecidedtofocusonteaching
a lesson on balance and flexibility. This week I instructed approximately 810
students on the concepts of balance, static balance, and dynamic balance. I
noticed that students had not learned this concept before during instruction so it
was very new and we reviewed some basic skills such as balancing itself to
prepare for the next activities. The facilities that were used was the black top of
the elementary school near the basketball courts. In ordertoaidestudentsin their
success with the skills and the lesson I used equipment such as 15polyspots,12
beanbags,10cones,andanopensafespace.

II.StudentLearningOutcomes

Thehealthrelatedobjectivesforthissessionisasfollows:

Students will be able to successfully demonstrate the

COTS for the balance unit while participating inMVPA
with 50% success rate. Students will be able to to
accurately recite the the cues of the skill and know the
definition of the keywords or academic language taught
in class 90% ofthetimeattheendofthelesson.Students
will be able to remain actively engaged in MVPA at
least 50% of the time during thedurationofthebalance
unit.

As I reflect on my lesson I feel that the allof theabovelistedlearningoutcomes

were met successfully.Iwasveryproudofmystudentsfullparticipationandtheirability
to perfectly and successfully recite and demonstrate the cues and definitions of the
academic termswelearnedthatday.ThoughIhad onestudentwhowasproblematicIdid

will try to improve on that. Also last but not leastifthey areany students that may be

III.CreatingaQualityLearningEnvironment(5points)

Iwasabletosuccessfullyin improvingthemotorskillsofmystudents.Asthelesson

continued they were ableto increase their balanceandusethe COTSas anaide toachievethis.

This was because I was able to correct my students immediately when possible. My
students were able to improve there skills through out the class through practice and
challenges. The psychomotor, cognitive, and affective learning domains were
successfully completed or used through out the lesson. In the lesson it seemed thatmost
of my lesson was approximately management (30%) and instruction (20%) than activity
(50%). I feel that there needs to be improvement in increasing the activity of the
lesson.During the lesson the percentage of time that my students were involved in
activity, instructional or management time was about a little scattered. But I definitely
hadlessin activitytime.IthinkI needtoimprove myplanningofmylessonsothatthere
will be more activity than management and instruction. Overall, I hope that I canhavea
20 % of management and instruction and 80% of activity will be my goal for the next
class. I didgivemystudentstooptionallypracticebalancingatahighlevelwithdifferent
posesthatIprovidedforthem.Iwouldstartwiththesimpleposes thenwouldtellthemto
try a challenge and do there best. I learned to slowly progress them tohighlevelactions
slowly by going through steps of levels of easy, medium, then hard. It seemed to work
better that way. I tried to not tell them that this is more difficult or hard to do butrather
tell them to lets try this movement or thisskill.Inordertoimprovemystudentsprogress
level and/or improve their skill development I let them practice all levels of the skill at

For the next lesson Ibelieve that I mayhavetomovearoundtocorrectandaidestudents
but for this particular unit because I wasparticipatingand beinga demonstratorduring
the lesson it was quite impossible to move around. The COTS for the course were
explained and reinforced butIfeelthatIshouldhave assessed mystudentsmoreonthe

organization,reinforcingmystudentsto succeed. Thethree weaknessesIfoundwas my
speech, my management of disruptive behavior, and my transitions. I hopeto improve
nextweek.

V.Recommendationsfornextsession

The strategies I would like to improve onismy management, transition, and

speech by better utilizing the three strike rule when needed, having smoother
transitions by having activities sort of overlapeachother.Sostudentswillnot
have to move to much from place to place during the lesson. Also learning to
control my speech impediment by breathing and taking my time for each
lesson the students need to be taught. My goal also is tosuccessfullyknowall
my students names as well.In addition, based onwhatIachievedthisweekthe
contentofmystudentlearningobjectivesfornextweekwouldbeasfollows:

Psychomotor Objective
: Students will be able to
successfully demonstrate the COTSforthethrowingand
passing unit 5/10 times throughoutthelesson.
Cognitive
Objective: Students will be able to to accurately recite
the the cues of the skill and demonstrate it in class with
75% accuracy at the end of the lesson.
HR Fitness
Objective: Students will be able to remain actively
engaged in MVPA at least 50% of the time during the
durationofthedanceunit.
