    Asignificantamountwillbeearmarkedforsafetyupgradation,electrification,doublingandmodernisationofyards.
    TheRailwayBudgetisexpectedtofocusoncapacitycreationintherailsectorwithanincreasedoutlayofaboutRs.1.25lakhcrore.
    Asignificantamountwillbeearmarkedforsafetyupgradation,electrification,doublingandmodernisationofyardstocleartraffic
    bottlenecks,sourcesintheRailwayssaid.
    However,RailwayMinisterSureshPrabhuwillhavetodependmostlyontheExternalBudgetaryResources(EBR)forexecutionofthe
    capacityaugmentationprojects.HeisalsoexpectedtogivedetailsofhisresourcemobilisationplanintheRailBudget201617.
    SinceGrossBudgetarySupport(GBS)fromtheFinanceMinistryisunlikelytomeettheRailwaysexpectation,fundingofprojectswillbe
    mostlyfromEBR.
    Railwayswillexecuteonlyfinanciallyviableprojects.Thoseprojectswhicharefinanciallynotviablebuteconomicallyandsociallydesirable
    willbeundertakenthroughjointventureswithstategovernments,thesourcessaid.
    Mr.PrabhuhaswrittentotheChiefMinistersof18statesfortakinguprailprojectsthroughjointventuresroute.SixStates,including
    Maharashtra,Odisha,Kerala,Andhra,Chhatisgarh,havesignedMoUswiththeRailwaysforformingjointventures.
    Newtrains
    Whileannouncementofnewtrainsisunlikelyforthesecondconsecutiveyear,aschemeforpremiumhighspeedparceltrainsisslatedtobe
    unveiledintheBudget.
    Facingadecreaseinearnings,theRailwayswillpressintoservicemanyspecialtrains.
    TheRailwayshasearnedRs.136,079.26croreasagainstthetargetofRs.141,416.05crore,adeclineof3.77percent.
    Insuburbansection,theRailBudgetwillannounceintroductionofACsuburbantrainsinMumbai,whichwillbereplicatedinotherareasas
    well.
    Mr.PrabhuisalsoexpectedtogivedetailsabouttheeffortsbeingundertakenbytheRailwaystokeepstationsandtrainscleanand
    environmentfriendlyinhissecondBudgetspeechinParliamentonFebruary25.
    Greeninitiatives
    All400stationsbeingplannedtobedevelopedwithprivateparticipationarelikelytobeannouncedasgreenstationswithseveral
    environmentfriendlymeasureslikegenerationofsolarenergy,recyclingofwater,conversionofwastetoenergyanduseofLEDlightstobe
    incorporatedintheplan.

    Targetingrailusersandtheindustry,Mr.Prabhuisalsoexpectedtoannounceafewschemesonpassengeramenitiesandfreightbusinesses.
