Assignment 1: Introduction Tasks (25 points)

We will use a Google+ community as the platform for most of the


communication in this course. You will complete posts, discussions and
reflection assignments in the community. You will also have a space to
ask questions of the instructor and share resources with your
classmates. To become more familiar with Google+ and communities,
please complete the tasks below.
Note: It is important that you complete the tasks in numerical order.
1. Create a Google+ Account: https://accounts.google.com

Assignment 2: The Syllabus Reponses (15 points)


It is very important for you to become familiar with the tools and skills
you will need to be successful as a college student. This process begins
by understanding the benefits of attending and completing college. In
this unit you will complete tasks that will assist you with developing
those skills and make use of necessary tools such as the course
syllabus and textbook.
List of Tasks:
1. Read Chapter 1 in the Textbook: Student Success in College: Doing
What Works, 2nd Edition.
2. There is a post in the Ori101 Google+ Community in the discussion
tab labeled The Syllabus Responses. As a response to that

post, write a 2-3 paragraph, free of typos and grammatical errors

Assignment 3: Student Success! (15 points)


Complete the 14 questions on page 6 of the text, (Student Success
in College: Doing What Works, 2nd Edition.: ) regarding Student
Success Myths or Facts? State why you chose the answer to
each question.
Note: You do not need to include the questions. Simply write the
number, your response to the statement, and why you selected
that answer to the applicable statement.
Example: 1. False. It is important to memorize key/important
facts.

Assignment 4: Accessing your skills (20 points)


You will complete a two-part assignment. The first part of the
assignment requires you to select two topics from chapter 1 to
write a discussion post in the Google+ community for each topic.
The directions and questions are listed in detail below.
Note: It is important that you complete part I of the assignment
early to provide time for yourself and classmates to complete
part II.
Part I:
Directions: Write a 2-3 paragraph free of typos, and grammatical
errors for any two topics listed below.
How can you become a critical thinker? Why do you need
to be a critical thinker as a college student?
What strategies can you use to become an active writer?
What features and resources are available with this
textbook? How can these tools help you succeed?
Post the questions and responses to the tab labeled Peer
Review in the Ori101 Google+ Community.

Respond to at least two different class members posts in the

responses. Respond directly to the classmates post. Your

Part I:
What is a peer-reviewed journal? Why are peer-reviewed journals
an important resource to college students?

Assignment 6: Setting Academic Goals and Time Management


(50 points)
Chapter 3 of the textbook is about setting goals and making the most
of your time. These are skills that you can use in this course and
transfer into everyday life practices. There are two parts to this
assignment. See the details and directions below:
Part I
You will use a Google+ calendar to help you set academic goals and
apply your time management skills. You will also complete an
assessment on your time perspective and write a reflective post.

Note: It is important that you complete the tasks in numerical order.


1. Read Chapter 3 of the textbook, Student Success in College: Doing
What Works, 2nd Edition.: ).
2. Read and learn about how to create and share a Google Calendar

3. Create a new Google+ Calendar. Name the calendar Ori101
4. Add the due dates of your assignments, discussion posts, and
activities for this class on your newly created calendar.
Hint: Refer to your course syllabus to obtain these dates.
