The RL Circuit
Just as for an RC circuit, the
voltage and current in an RL
circuit decay exponentially
towards their long-time
values,
I, V ~ e-t/

For an RC circuit, the

time constant was
= RC
For an RL circuit, the
time constant is
 = L/R

Problem 1
Two combined inductances of two coils
connected in series is 0.76 H and 0.25 H
depending upon relative directions of currents in
the coils. If one of the coils have isolated, has a
self inductance of 0.15 H then calculate:
1. Mutual inductance and
2. Coefficient of coupling
Answer: M = 0.1275 H, L1 = 0.15 H,
L2 = 0.355 H, K = 0.552

Problem 2
Two long single layer solenoids have the same length
and same number of turns, but are placed coaxially
one with in the other. The diameter of the inner coil
is 8 cm and that of the outer coil is 10 cm. calculate
the coefficient of coupling between the coils

K = 0.8
