Answer the following questions and complete the activity.
i)

Probability

What is Probability?
- the likelihood of something happening, the extent to which something is possible

How do we calculate probability?

To find probability first, see which one of the given numbers are the set of elements being asked to
find. Then look to find the total number of each set added> Round off if necessary.

Find and Solve 10 probability questions. (Show all working out)

1) Johnny had 15 black marbles in all at first. He sold 10 black and received 8 blue from his
mother. What is the probability of choosing a blue marble?

2) Peter found 5 red bottle covers; he had 6 blue ones and 8 black ones. What is the probability
of choosing a green bottle cover?

3) Mr. Simpson started teaching at Lenoz High where in his class there were 5 Jamaicans, 5
Americans, 2 Asians and 7 Australians. What is the probability of Mr. Simpson calling an
Asian?

4) Tickets numbered 1 to 20 are mixed up and then a ticket is drawn at random. What is the
probability that the ticket drawn has a number which is a multiple of 3 or 5?

5) A bag contains 2 red, 3 green and 2 blue balls. Two balls are drawn at random. What is the
probability that none of the balls drawn is blue?

6) In a class, there are 15 boys and 10 girls. Three students are selected at random. The
probability that 1 girl and 2 boys are selected, is:

7) A glass jar contains 6 red, 5 green, 8 blue and 3 yellow marbles. If a single marble is chosen
at random from the jar, what is the probability of choosing a red marble?

8) Two dice are thrown simultaneously. What is the probability of getting two numbers whose
product is even?

9) Jalen and Micaiah slaughtered 12 black dragons 5 green dragons and 7 blue dragons. What is
the probability of killing a white dragon?

10)
Peter has 2 sweets. Phillip has 9 sweets. Each being green, what is the
probability of choosing a black sweet?

ii)

Fractions

What are Fractions?

- a numerical quantity that is not a whole

What is an Equivalent Fractions?

- equivalent fractions are fractions that may look different, but are equal to each
other. Two equivalent fractions may have a different numerator and a different
denominator. A fraction is also equivalent to itself.

Find and Solve 10 of fractions

Calculate if a 5/10, b 9/10, c 1, d 2/5, e 3/9, f 10/20.

Add the following

A decimal to a fraction
9

To change a decimal into a fraction we must first rewrite our sum to better understand it.
Look carefully at all the places after the point at the decimal. Write the places down and find a
common denominator. After that have the decimal, as the numerator, and the denominator and
divide. Simplify if necessary.

iii)

Percentage

What is Percentage?
- a rate, number, or amount in each hundred
What formula could we use to solve this?
- The fraction divided by 100

Find and Solve 5

1) Timmy got a 50% in History, 90% in Physics, 100% in English Language and 70% in Dutch.
What was his average?

2) Mr. Simpson calculated the class average with Sonali having 91%, Zackary having 89%,
Isenio having 89%, and Micaiah having 70%. What was the class average?

3) Phillip took a test and number 5 was a percentage question. Help Phillip with the question.

If everyone in Ms. Greens class had 100%, what would the class average be?

Consumer Arithmetic

What is Consumer Arithmetic?

- a branch of mathematics which helps persons calculate basic value of goods and services.

Show 5 examples of profit & loss

Profit
1) Mr. Lemarr sold a car for $100,000 when he bought it for half of the selling price. Is this a
profit or a loss and why?

2) Jackson took up a pencil for $7 but sold it to his friend for $10. Is this a profit pr a loss and
why?

his brother for triple the price. Is this a profit or a los, and why?

for $9. Is this a profit or a loss and why?

Loss

Calculate the loss percentage.

2) Jackie made a Mothers Day card but she bought the materials which costed $80. Later she
sold it for $12 becasue it was messy. Calculate the loss.
