Episode 1
Your Target
At the end of this activity, you will be competent in identifying and classifying
resources that facilitate teaching and learning processes.
Your Map
It will be an interesting journey to the world of educational technology. A chance
to visit and observe a learning resource center of a school will start you off.
For this process, explore the world through these steps:
Step 4: Write down a brief reflection of
your experience.
Step 3: Make an inventory of its available
resources and classify them according to their
characteristics and functions.
Step 2: Ask the learning resource center in-charge
about how some equipment or facilities are used.
Step 1: Visit a schools learning resource center. Look
around and see what resources and facilities are available
inside.
Your Tools
After you have observed, classify the resources available in the learning
resource center. Please use the activity form provided for you.

Impression:
The government really did a great job providing different learning resources. The administrator and
faculty members are also doing their job maintaining and taking care of the learning resources. Generally,
everything look just fine.
Name and Signature of Observer: Kier A. Baugbog
Your Analysis
Were the Learning resources/materials arranged properly according to their
functions and characteristics?
Yes, learning resources are arranged properly according to their functions and
characteristics. Thanks to the administrator and the person in charge learning resources
are in the good hands.
Do the guidelines and procedures facilitate easy access to the materials by
the teachers? Why? or Why not?
Yes, it definitely facilitate easy access to the materials by the teachers. The guidelines and
procedure are clearly defined and fair to all the teachers. It actually, somehow engages
the teachers to use the materials in order for them to have an easy teaching-learning
process.
What are the strengths of this Learning Resource Center?
I think one of its strength is that it is appropriate for the generation today. The learning
resource center is high end in terms of technology. One of the best examples of these is
the computers in the computer laboratory. It is not the old slow functioning computer. It
seems that the government really is taking education seriously.
What are its weaknesses?
I can say the learning resource material is lack of the accessibility of students. I am
referring to the computer laboratory. Students are free to use the facility but when only
they have computer classes. Otherwise, they are not allowed to enter the facility.
What suggestions can you make?
Maybe, make a policy that allows the student to access every learning resource material
they want. Student pass can do, of course only if they have something important to do.
Your Reflections
1. Which of the materials in the learning resources caught your interest the most?
Why?
Computer Laboratory really caught my interest. The school has enough computers
for the number of students at least for each section. Aside from that, it is also good
to point out that the computer laboratory is very high end. Computers are fast
functioning and updated.
2. Which gadgets/materials are you already confident to use/operate?
I think I am confident to use the computers. I already have taken subjects about the
usage of different Microsoft applications and I can say I can already confidently
operate it. Also, I think I can manage to use projectors.
Open Display Settings by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel,
clicking Appearance and Personalization, clicking Personalization, and then
clicking Display Settings.

Your Target
At the end of this activity, you will be competent in appraising the effectiveness of
display boards as learning resources.
Your Map
Display boards, or what we more commonly refer to as bulletin board, is one of
the most readily available and versatile learning resources.
To reach your target, follow these steps:
When I first visited the school I noticed a lot of board displays. Its content is ranging
from academic to mere informative. There are boards about science specifically, biology.
Majority are informative board displays like the officer of student affairs. There are also
board displays about the negative effect of smoking located at the clinic.
The board displays are good in general. The materials used are paper, cardboard,
Styrofoam. It is sad to say that some of the board displays are starting to worn out but
generally speaking the way the board is presented is excellent. I never see any grammatical
error and the message of the board display is imparted well.
From among the board displays that you saw, pick the one that you got most interested in.

Your Analysis
Did the board display design reflect the likes/interests of its target
audience? Why? or Why not?
Yes, the board display design reflects the likes/interests of its target audience. The colours
used are catchy. The creator carefully considered what his/her targets want. It is
something that can catch the attention of the audience and make them really stop and
examine the display.
Was the language used clear and simple for the target audience to
understand? Why? or Why not?
Yes, the language used is clear and simple. The creator never used vague and ambiguous
words. I observe that the board display clearly express its message. Moreover, the creator
never used words that is hard to understand.
What do you think was the purpose of the board display? Was it effective?
Why? or Why not?
The purpose of the display is to inform the students about what to do in times of disaster.
It is effective because it is visually rich. It consider the fact that most students are visual
learners and so the display is full of drawings, illustrations on the procedure that the
student should do in times of disaster
Based on your suggestions, purpose an enhanced version of the display board. Use
the form below.
Based on your suggestions, make your own board display la-out. You may present
your output through any of these:
A hand-made drawing or lay-out
An electronic (computer) drawing/illustration or lay-out
A collage
Your Reflections
1. Name at least 5 skills that a teacher should have to be able to come up with
effective board displays. Elaborate on why each skill is needed.
For me, in order for the teacher to come up with an effective board display,
he/she needs the following skills; first is being a goal-oriented person, he/she
needs to carefully consider what he/she wants students to learn from the
display. He/she should be very strict to obtaining that and not with anything
else. Second, he/she should be very creative in a way that he/she should think
of new ways on making board display. In a way where he/she presented what
he/she wants in his/her own way. Third is being resourceful, board displays

At the end of this activity, you will gain competence in determining the
appropriateness of teaching aids to learning tasks.
Your Map
To reach your target, follow the steps below:
Step 4: Reflect on your learnings.
Step 3: Comment on the appropriateness of
the teaching aids to learning tasks.
Step 2: Note down the various teaching aids that
were utilized in the teaching learning process.
Step 1: Observe a class on its regular schedule
The lesson is all about proportional segments. The teacher uses module which
they called Math time. It is some sort of a worksheet that every student has. The
teacher uses the module to get examples and its like the whole discussion is based on
the module.
It is very evident that students are bored and not eager to learn. Aside from the
fact that the teacher is weak in classroom management, she presents the lesson in a
habitual way. Its a cyclical process and everything is very predictable. I believe that
made the students bored.

Your Analysis
What do you think prompted the teacher to choose the materials/learning
resources that he/she used?
I think the teacher uses that material because it is indicated and part of the new
curriculum. Also, I think the teacher is being practical in a way that she doesnt even need
to make a lesson plan because everything is already indicated in the said module.
Moreover, since every student has a module there is a bigger possibility that process will
be easy because the students have the chance to study in advance.
What difficulties, if any, did the teacher experience? How can this be
managed?
The teacher is having a difficult time making the discussion spontaneous and makes the
classroom flexible. I think in order for that matter to be managed, the teacher should not
depend solely on the learning resource she should have her own examples. She should
also engage the students in motivating activities.
Over-all, were the learning resources/materials used effectively? Why?
Why not?
The learning material was used effectively. Definitely the teacher did a good job in using
the learning material. Nonetheless, still the strategy of the teacher is not that compelling.
Your Reflections
1. Put yourself on the place of the teacher. What would you do similarly and what
would you do differently if you will teach the same lesson to the same group of
students? Why?
I think if I am at the place of the teacher and teach the same students with the same topic,
Ill be following the module the curriculum had been dictated just like what the teacher is
doing. But I will be using different approach and activities. Ill make sure that the
activities are very engaging and will bring the best out of the students. Moreover, I will
not be confined on what is written in the module. I will make sure that the discussions
will be very spontaneous and the classroom will be very flexible.

Your Analysis
Give at least three benefits of doing a survey of available materials before making your
own materials? Explain each.
1. It saves your time. Time is a very important element in teaching-learning process.
Teachers should be very aware on the importance of this. Having said so, instead of
bombarding yourself doing a thing, your time should be flexible. Therefore, knowing
the available materials before making your own makes you know what materials you
dont need to do anymore.
2. It is practical. It makes you save money. Instead of spending money for making the
learning material that is already available why not use it though.
3. You can make sure that the material you will be using was already tested effective. Of
course using an available material makes you feel secure in the effectivity of it. Having
in mind that somebody already used it
Your Reflections
1. Which of the materials did you like making the most? Why?
I like doing the power point presentation. It is very cool. Aside from it being
compelling in the eyes of students, it is very practical because it can easily be
edited.
2. What difficulties, if any, did you encounter in making the materials? How did you
overcome them?
I think one of my difficulties is to be creative, specifically, in making visual aids
and the like. Therefore, I see to it that I utilize technology to overcome that.
Mostly, my presentation is technologically inclined.
3. What tips can you give teachers regarding preparation of teaching materials?
I think, primarily, they should practice the usage of it before presenting to
students. You can never get ashamed in front of your students. Next is that it
should be very goal oriented, it should hit your goal no matter what.

Your Analysis
After working with your hand-out, answer the following questions:
What are the good features of a hand-out?
Hand-out should clearly present the goal of it by the use of simple words that easily be
understand. Hand out should be creatively done. It should highlight the important
details.
Which of these features are present in the hand-out 1 made?
It definitely highlights the important detail, specifically the getting of the Least Common
Denominator. It provide advance graphical organizer to discuss how to get the LCD. Also
the words used are very simple and easy to understand.
Your Reflections
1. What difficulties, if any, did you encounter in making the hand-outs? How did you
overcome them?
Choosing of information that should be in the hand-out is difficult for me. I think I
overcome it by thinking myself in the feet of my students.

Your Analysis
After working on your slide presentation, answer the following questions:
What are the good features of the slide presentation?
It should be visually rich. Colours should vary because it makes the presentation catchy
for the students. Font size should be considered. You should follow the rule of thumb.
It should provide necessary illustration for the student to easily understand the
presentation. You should use some animation to have wow factor.
Which of these features are present in the slide presentation you made?
I think all the features are present in the slide presentation. The colours are definitely
engaging for visual learners. The font size is just right and I put illustrations about the
topic that is being tackled. Most specially, I never forget the animation schemes
Which features are not present in the slide presentation you made?
Your Reflections
1. What difficulties, if any, did you encounter in making the slide presentation? How
did you overcome them?
I think I had difficulty on choosing the right information that should be in the
presentation. Carefully considering the side of the students is a kind of a hard task.
But I, luckily, overcome it by again thinking I am on the students shoes. I often
ask myself the question; if I am at the place of students will I be able to understand
the lesson in this way? What should I see so that the presentation is very engaging
in the eyes of students? And most importantly I strictly and carefully considered
what do I want them to learn from the presentation.

Towards the end of this FS experience, I realize how important the role of the technology,
learning resources, learning materials and the likes in teaching-learning process as a
whole. Teacher plays a big role in the process of choosing the proper materials to be used.
If the teacher chose the wrong one or not the appropriate one, if the teacher does not
consider what are the things that should be considered, if the teachers lack the knowledge
of how important this is it means a failure throughout the process. That just proved how
really important the role of the technology, learning resources, learning materials and the
likes in the process.
Therefore, as a future educator I will see to it that I will carefully choose the right
material not to take for granted the interest and the likes of the students. Moreover, I will
make sure that Ill use technology effectively. Finally, I will make the process for students
way easy with the help of appropriate learning materials and the likes.
