1. At first, Stanley liked being flat. But then, people started to make fun of Stanley because he is
flat. Why do we make fun of people who look different? How did it make Stanley feel? What
would you say to Stanley to make him feel better?

2. Stanley says, maybe its impossible for everybody to like everybody. Mrs. Lambchop says,
Perhaps. But they can try. Who do you agree with, Stanley or Ms. Lambchop? Why?
3. In Chapter 5, Stanleys mother says that its wrong to dislike people for their shapes, religion,
or color of their skin. Has anyone ever treated you badly or differently for any of these
reasons? What about disliking people who have less or more money, or if they have a
handicap, or because they are a boy or girl?
4. In Chapter 5, Arthur wants to help Stanley because he was upset and crying, but earlier in the
book he was angry and jealous. Do you have different feelings towards the same person? Do
you care how your brother or sister feels? Are you sad when they are sad? Have you been both
angry and happy with them?
