To the Senior Portfolio Committee:
With the year of my graduation quickly approaching, Im writing this to gain the approval of the
committee and to showcase that I have properly completed all of the necessary academic
requirements to receive my high school diploma. As a student of Buckingham Charter Magnet
High School, Ive learned the importance of taking pride in my work and achieving what I feel as
though I need to achieve, and hope to go on and pursue a career involving animals.
In the past three years of being a student, Buckingham has taught me a lot, both about myself,
others around me, and the work I will partake in. Though nothing about the journey has been
easy, it has definitely prepared me for how to take on difficult tasks and tribulations. I no longer
stress over essays or large projects; Ive come to understand what steps need to be taken to
reduce the pressure of my workload, and Ive learned how to effectively manage my time and
needs. The teachers here have all exposed me to different realities of life beyond high school,
whether it be through guest speakers, career projects, or lesson plans dedicated to real-life
issues. Specifically, I have been taught skills like how to analyze and evaluate both the work I
do and the group projects I contribute to, especially in math, english, and science.
My immediate future plans are going to Humboldt State University, which is a four-year college
in Arcata, California. I feel as though this college is far enough away from home while still being
close enough to family that my growth will not be hindered in anyway. I plan on going in
undeclared and getting my foot in the door before deciding concretely what I would like to
pursue career-wise. The idea that has stuck with me all throughout school is working with
animals. Being underage, Im not able to know if this is something that would work out since
most shelters dont allow volunteers under eighteen.
Even though my graduation date is rapidly approaching, I take this opportunity to do more
growing and learning to continue preparing myself for life outside of high school. Buckingham
has provided me with more skills and abilities in one semester than any other school ever
would. I no longer feel fear when thinking about the upcoming future and instead look forward to
it with optimism and happiness. I anticipate your zealous approval of my portfolio.
Sincerely,
Samantha Goldstein
