the 90s to 2000s and initially was a follow from punk rock. Before anything alternative rock had been gaining its popularity amongst the college crowds and music underground. Much of Alternative rock generally consists of music instruments such as electric and bass guitar, the drums and a vocal singer. Generally said to be name due to its rejection of the commercialism of mainstream culture. Alternative rock bands became popular through playing in small clubs and people spreading the word of alternative rock. Many of alternative lyrics consists of drug abuse, depression, suicide and environmentalism.
Indie Rock
Indie Rock came out of alternative rock.
Indie rock began in the UK in the 1980s. It has many different subgenres including; indie pop and alternative rock. Indie Rock generally refers to independent rock however through the 80s, it began to be used to describe music associated with punk and post-punk labels. It is seen to have originated from the rebellious punk music in the late 70s with bands such as the Ramones, Patti Smith and the Dictators whilst in the UK we were dishing out bands such as the Clash, the Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks and the Dammed. In the late 80s a Manchester based music scene which brought indie, psychedelic and dance rock to the front. This inspired the Indie Rock scene.
Alternative Rock Examples
Red Hot Chili Peppers This is an example of alternative
rock music. The RHCP formed in America in the early 80s and are still widely popular today. Scar Tissue the song in the example it was released in 99 and is one of their most successful songs. RHCP generally use instruments such as drums, guitars (bass and electric), keyboard, vocals and the trumpet. New Order this is another example of Alternative rock music. New Order formed also in the early 80s consisting of instruments such as guitars (bass and electric), vocals, keyboards, synths and drums. The song in the example Blue Monday was released in 83 and further remixed in 88 and 95. it became a popular anthem in the dance club scene.
Indie Examples
The Smiths The Smiths came out in Manchester and
formed in 82. They are said to be the most important outcome of alternative and indie rock and the most influence British guitar group of the decade. The song in the example There is a Light that Never Goes Out was released in 86 in their third album The Queen Is Dead. However was not released until 92 in the UK. The Stone Roses The Stone Roses also came out in Manchester in 83 and were one of the pioneering groups of the Madchester Movment. The song in the example I am the Resurrection is a 8 minute song consisting of guitar solos and was released in 92 and is the final song of their debut album. It reached 33 on the UK Singles Chart.

Bebop The Birth
Bebop came in 42 after a trumpeter, double bass player, alto saxophonist, pianist and drummer Dizzy Gillespie, Milt Hinton, Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk and Kenny Clarke began playing inform jazz in a club in New York called Minton's Playhouse. Bebop is a generally solo and shows their knowledge of harmony and virtuosity. Bebop initially pushed Jazz music back into the limelight. Although Jazz is generally easy to dance to Bebop wasnt but still created an entertaining scene after the world wars especially the second one.

Gillespie Dizzy Gillespie
created the evolution of jazz. Writing this song himself along with the help of Charlie Parker, Milt Hinton, Thelonious Monk and Kenny Clarke in the early 40s. Charlie Parker Along with Gillespie, Charlie Parker also helped to create the evolution of jazz. This song was written by himself and created in the
