Romans 4:1-25

1. How does Romans 4 fit into Paul’s argument? That is, how does this
chapter continue to develop Paul’s thesis?

2. What is Paul’s main point in each of the three portions of his argument
in Romans 4? In 4:1-8? In 4:9-12? In 4:13-25?

3. From Romans 4:16-25, describe and clarify Paul’s concept of ―faith.‖


What correspondence does Paul draw between the Christian’s faith
and Abraham’s faith? What does it mean to have Christian ―faith‖?

4. How can Paul say, in Romans 4:19-21–―Without weakening in his faith,


he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was
about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet
he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but
was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully
persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised‖–when we
know from Genesis his story? Explain.
