AlthoughOrwelldoesntdirectlystateit,hedisplayscommunismandcapitalism
perfectlythroughthelivesoftheanimalsonAnimalFarm.Theanimalswillconstantlyshowthis
whilethereadermaynotunderstandthemeaningbehindthestory.Orwellgreatlyrepresents
bothofthesegovernmentsthroughtheeyesofanimals.Thiswayitisentertainingandfunnyto
thereaderwhileteachingthemalesson.Orwellteachesusthatbothformsofgovernment,
thoughtheymayhaveadifferentwayofrunningthings,arethesamethingtoanextent.

Communism,theideathatallpropertyisgovernmentownedandeachpersonpayswhat

theyareavailableandneedtopay.

BeforetheRussianRevolutionbothcommunismandsocialism
wereconsideredsynonyms.Nowcommunismisconsideredanextremeformofsocialism.Most
communistcommunitiesonlytrumpedtheirgovernmentsbecausetheyareheavilyagricultural
societies.Therearealotofcommunistcountriesaroundtoday.Cuba,China,Laos,NorthKorea,
andVietnamarejustafew.Thesecountriesbelievethatwhatyouownisgovernmentproperty
andwhatyoumakeisgovernmentmoney.Alotofpeopledisagreewithhowthesecountriesare
runandtheywanttoputastoptothem.NorthKoreabeingthebiggestonecountriesaretryingto
stop,justbecausetheydontshareanythingwiththeworld,theyareclosedofffromtherestof
societyanddontshareanything.InthebookAnimalFarmtheauthorGeorgeOrwellwritesa

greatdescriptionofacommunistgovernment.Theanimalsareclosedoffromtheoutsideworld
andthinkthatwhatevertheirleader,Napoleonsaysisright.Theyarebrainwashedintothinking
itisokforpigsanddogstobetreatedbetterthantheyaretreated.Theyalsobelievethatthepigs,
especiallyNapoleon,aretheonlyonesallowedtomakecontactwiththeoutsideworld.Sound
familiar?CommunismisnttheonlyformofGovernmentthough,capitalismistheotherbig
formofgovernmentthatmostcountriesarerunby.
Capitalism,whenanindividualownstheirownitems,andworksfortheirownmoney.
Thecapitalistclassrulesbutdoesnotgovernitcontentsitselfwithrulingthegovernment.

actuallyhowAmericarunsandhowwelive,weearnwhatweworkfor.Wecompeteforwhat
wewant.Itislikeaneverendinggameofrock,paper,scissors.Thereisawinneryetthenext
personthatcomescouldbebetterandcouldbeatyou.Themoreyouworktowardssomethingthe
moreadvantageyouwillhaveoverthenextperson.Everycapitalistgovernmentislikethat,the
harderyouworkthemoreyouearn.Inacapitalistsocietyyouworkundersomebodywhoworks
undersomeoneelse.Thepersonwhoworksaboveyoustillhastoworkforsomeone.Theyget
payedsomuchandtheypayyoualittleporationofthat.Thereisadownsidetocapitalist
governmentsthough,becauseofcapitalistgovernmentswehavesomepoeplewhoare
millionaires,livingthegoodlifeandotherswhoarepoorandhomeless.Wealsohavepeople
whoworktheirtailsoffandaregettingpaidlessthansomeonewhositsontheirbuttsallday.
ThebookAnimalFarmbyGeorgeOrwelldoesagreatwayofshowingacapitalistgovernment
throughthelivesofanimalsandtheirlivesonafarm.Italsodoesagreatjobofcomparinga
communistgovernmentsvs.acapitalistgovernment.

Bothofthecapitalistgovernmentandthecommunistgovernmentaregreatlyrepresented
throughthebook.

Thisquoteshowsjusthoweasilythetwo
governmentscangetmixedup.InthestoryOrwellshowshowonegovernmentcanjustaseasily
betheotherthroughthepigsbeingincharge.ThroughoutthebookOrwelldemonstrateshowthe
twogovernmentsformfromonetotheother.Theanimalsthinktheyareallbeingtreatedfairly
whichisthewayOrwelldemonstratesacapitalistgovernment.Inthebookthepigsslowlystart
totakethefarmoverandstarttocontroltheotheranimals.ThisishowOrwelldemonstratesa
communistgovernment.OrwellbasesAnimalFarmoffoftheRussianRevolution.TheRussian
RevolutionwasaseriesofRevolutionsthatleadtothefallingoftheTsaristautocracytothe
risingoftheSovietUnion.YoucanclearlyseetheresemblancebetweenNapoleonandthelast
russiantsar,NicholasII.AnimalFarmgreatlydescribesthewayRussiawentfromacapitalist
countrytoacommunistcountry,throughthelivesofanimals.Asareaderyoumaynothave
realizedwhatyouwerereadingatthetime,butOrwelldidagreatjobtorepresentboth
governmentsinthisbook,aswellasgivingthereadersalookintowhattheRussianRevolution
waslike.Healsodoesagreatjobinshowingjusthoweasilyitistomorphonegovernmentinto
theother.
InthebookAnimalFarmOrwellgreatlydemonstrateshowgettingjustalittletasteof
onethingcangrowintoaneedforit.

Theanimalsthinktheygetachanceoffreedomwhenitis
actuallythepigswhogetatasteofwhatpowerandmoneytastelike.Heshowshisreadersjust
howeasilyitistogofromoneformofgovernmentandtransformitintoanother.Thebestpartof

thebookistheendwhenOrwelltellshowastheanimalsbackawayfromthewindowitisharder
totellbetweenthepigsandthehumans.Orwellistellingusexactlyhoweasyoneformof
governmentcanchangeintotheother.
