The Story of the Prodigal Son is presented to us

this week-end. Gods Plan of Salvation through
Jesus Christ, is the true underlying message from
the Scriptures today.
From the Old Testament, we are reminded of the
happy beginning of a New Life by the people of
God in the Land flowing with milk and honey. God
kept his Covenant with man, even though man
did not keep and observe his part of the Covenant.
Christ became the mediator and the one who
reconciled us to the Father. We are encouraged to
make our Confession during this time of Lent. This
is our acceptance of Gods Covenant of Mercy and
Love, just like the Father who accepted back his
prodigal son.
Please take note and mark your Calendars for our
Penance Service on Tuesday March 15th. Let us
avail ourselves of Gods Love and Mercy, - the only
sure way for us to be part of the Mission and Work
of Jesus Christ, our Savior.
We need to realize, like the prodigal son, the need
and the advantage that we secure for ourselves
now and in the life to come, in going back to the

St. John of God
(1495-1550)
Feast Day March

St. John grew up working as a shepherd in the

Castile region of Spain. He led a wild and misspent
youth, and travelled over much of Europe and
North Africa as a soldier in the army of Charles V,
and as a mercenary. He fought through a brief
period of insanity, and peddled religious books and
pictures in Gibraltar, though without any religious
conviction himself. In his 40s he received a vision
of the Infant Jesus who called him John of God. To
make up for the misery he had caused as a soldier,
he left the military, rented a house in Granada,
Spain, and began caring for the sick, poor,
homeless and unwanted. St. John gave what he had,
begged for those who couldnt, carried those who
could not move on their own, and converted both
his patients and those who saw him work with
them. A friend of Saint John of Avila on whom he
tried to model his life, John founded the Order of
Charity and the Order of Hospitallers of Saint John
of God.

We hope to have the paper work completed in a few

months time. Fr Sebastian hopes to complete the
purchase of that Property before he leaves the
Parish. By the grace of God, we have enough money
for the purchase. It has an Early Learning Center, a
Church and
a Rectory. Those interested are
welcome to drive all the way down to the end of
Main Street and see the property for themselves.
PARISH PENANCE SERVICE
The Lenten Penance Service will be on Tuesday
March 15 at 6.30 PM. All the Priests of the Vicariate
will be present for our Confessions.
ISLAND CHRISM MASS
The Island Chrism Mass will be on Thursday 3/17 at
the Co-Cathedral of St Theresa at 6 PM. Stan and
Kehau Miyamoto will represent the Parish, in
receiving the Oils on our behalf.
EASTER BUNNY
Kids: Rumor has it that the Easter Bunny will make a
surprise visit after the 8.30 Mass on Easter Sunday.

Who is worthy to
receive the love
of God?
In
Mass, we pray,
"Lord, Im not
worthy but say
the Word and
my soul shall be
healed." Jesus
illustrates in this
Sunday's Gospel reading that we are all
worthy, but not because of
what we do rather, it's because of what Jesus did do:
He died on the cross to take
our sins into death so that
we can rise up with him in
the perpetual Easter experience of unity with God.
In the parable of the Prodigal
Son, it's not what the son did
that made his return home
acceptable. It's not his repentance that made him worthy of receiving his father's
love. It's what the father did.
He loved his child. Unconditionally. He loved him even
while he was far away, even
while he was straying in a
sinful lifestyle.

The dad's unconditional love was his gift to the son

even while the son was rejecting it. The gift that the
son gave to his dad upon his return home was an
open heart to receive the love that had always been
available.
During every Mass, we come to church as prodigal
children. It doesn't matter that we think we've been
good Christians all week long. In some way or other,
we have turned our backs on God's full, unconditional,
faithful love. This is why we always start Mass ac-

knowledging that we have

sinned. Let's take this opportunity very seriously!
Next, we listen to the
Word that heals our relationship with God. Jesus is
speaking to you; listen in
your heart. Jesus, who is
the Word made flesh, has
already begun to respond
to your presence at Mass.
In the Offertory, we offer
ourselves to the Father; it's our moment of surrender: "I no longer deserve to be called your child, so do
with me as you will." What God wills
is for us to be restored to a fully loving, give-and-take relationship with
him and his family. And thus, in the
grandest moment of the Liturgy, we
receive the Eucharist as a gift of unity with God and with his whole family, the Church.

Reflect & Discuss:

1. In what ways do you feel like a
prodigal child? Do you feel separated from God to any degree?
What sins do you need to confess so that you can turn around
and head back home? Your Father is waiting with open arms!
2. Describe a Prodigal Son type of
experience. Are you waiting for a
lost child or friend to return to the
Church or to your love?
3. In what way have you been the
child running away from God?
What made you decide to return
home? How did God receive you
back? What convinced you that
his love is unconditional and always available?

February. Photos of the
11 Pohnpeian children
who were baptized two
weeks
ago,
were
published last Sunday.
The photos of the 9
Samoan children to be
baptized,
will
be
published next week.
Some of these children
will be receiving First
Holy Communion in the
month of May.

Second graders from Holy Family Catholic Academy had a wonderful field trip excursion
to Maris Garden this past week. As part of their science curriculum, the students planted
lettuce, fed goats, and learned all about aquaponics and hydroponics at the local plant
nursery and landscaping firm in Mililani. For a change of pace, they loved being out in
the great outdoors!
