Title:

Paying It Forward: The Lorenzo Dura Story

Narrative
Summary:

Lorenzo Dura is a former seaman who was injured onboard and was
repatriated to the country since he could no longer perform his
duties. As a person with work-related disability (PWRD), he qualified
as a beneficiary of ECCs KaGabay program and became the
president of the Occupationally Disabled Workers Association of the
Philippines, Inc. (ODWAPI). He led the organization towards unity
and cooperation with the end goal of providing a source of income
for member-PWRD. Under his leadership, the ODWAPI now has two
storesone located in Southwest Integrated Provincial Transport
Terminal and another one within the ECC compound in Makati City.
Both stores are manned by member-PWRDs who receives P500 per
day.
Also, the ODWAPI is now expanding its reach to include PWRDs in
the different regions of the country. Last November, an ODWAPI
Chapter in Iloilo was established and chapters in Baguio and
Zamboanga will soon follow. Part of their assistance to these
regional chapters is to assist them in deciding on what type of
business undertaking they should go into and how they should
manage it.
