Investigation
A:
ORST is a parallelogram, U is the midpoint of RS
and V is the midpoint of ST. Relative to the origin O,
the position vectors of points R, S , T, U and V are r,
s, t, u and v respectively.
i) Express s in terms of r and t.

Understand how the sine and cosine rule can be applied in

vector geometry

Google Classroom: ABOUT/2016

S1/WEEK06 folder for exercises attempt
all even numbered questions.

ii) Express v in terms of s and t.

Knowledge Checklist:

Practical Components

Construct geometrical proofs with vector arguments

What are linear combinations?

Linear Dependence, what is it and how to test for it

Linear Independence, what is it and how to test for it

Span of a set of vectors what is it and how do you notate it

Basis for a span of vectors concept and basic notation only

Vector Projections

Q/F/O

iii) Hence, or otherwise, show that

4(u + v) = 3(r + s + t).
B:
If a = 2i j + 6k and b = i j k, show that a + b is
perpendicular to b and find the cosine of the angle
between the vectors a + b and a b.
