I am a fourth year Chemical Engineering student at the University of Edinburgh. I am looking for a 6 month placement starting this summer. Working at Norbord would allow me to experience first-hand how a company develops to meet the rapidly increasing demand for OSB in Europe.

I am a fourth year Chemical Engineering MEng student at the University of Edinburgh currently looking for a 6 month placement starting this summer. The internship will be part of the 5th year of my degree. Working at Norbord Europe would be a great opportunity to learn about a wide range of equipment and improve the performance of your Inverness facility. Originally, I am from Spain but grew up in Belgium and I am completely fluent in English, French and Spanish. I really enjoyed working in an international environment during my work experience at the European Council. Therefore, working at a company like Norbord which operates in Canada, Scotland, the USA and Belgium appeals to me. During my year abroad at Queens University in Canada, I was involved in a brewing design team. We made a few batches of beer using different raw materials. Recording all the details about each batch allowed us to improve the consistency and flavour of the product. Moreover, optimizing a small and relatively simple setup by changing the yeast supplier or adding insulation was a very satisfying experience. Consequently, I am looking forward to getting familiarised with a larger, more complex process and to investigate and minimise possible inefficiencies that occur at Norbord Inverness. Although my knowledge about the equipment used in the manufacturing process of oriented strand board is limited, I have a strong DIY attitude and enjoy building or repairing small appliances and furniture. Moreover, my experience as Financial Director of a small start-up and summer intern at an architecture studio should ease communications with staff with different expertise such as accountants, operators or project managers. Working at Norbord Europe would allow me to experience first-hand how a company develops to meet the rapidly increasing demand for OSB in Europe while retaining its market-leading position. Additionally, working on a pollution control device, a surface blender and a dryer would be an excellent opportunity to learn about environmental and safety measures used in the wood panel industry. Thank you for taking the time to consider this application and I look forward to hearing from you in the near future. Sincerely,
