Game 1: Four Goal Soccer

Sport: Soccer
Number of Players per team: 5 Players, the
students will pick their own teams with the
stipulations that if the teams are unfair they will
be switched.
Positions: There are no set positions in this game, although it
would be wise to have two set defenders and three offensive
players, there are NO goalkeepers.
Facility: This game can be played indoors or outdoors the field
size would be a 50yrd X 50yrd square with a 3yrd goal placed in
the middle of each sideline.
Equipment and materials needed: Cones for boundaries, 8
cones to make the goals, and two indoor soccer ball if being
played indoors or two regulation size 5 soccer ball if being played
outdoors.
Foci/Outcomes:
1. One focus of this game is to allow students to work on their
scoring and being more accurate because the goal is a smaller
than regulation size. Another focus of this game would be to get
students more opportunities to get to touch the ball and improve
on their skills.
Rules/Regulations:
To start the game Players will
have the ball dropped and the
players will fight for the ball
No use of hands at all in this
game

You defend one goal and can

score at the other three
There should be no physical
pushing or tripping of other
players
Your team gets one point for
every goal you score in the
opposing team's goals
Games are 6 minutes long
There is a 1yrd X 3yrd box in front of the goal where
offensive players are not allowed to be inside when shooting
Each game teams will rotate the goal that they are defending at
that point the players should change their positions within their
teams
For a goal to count, the soccer ball must be below waist height in
between the two cones
There is no puppy-guarding or Cherry-picking near the goal,
you must always be moving around the field trying to create
plays.
You get one point for scoring in an opponent's net and you lose
one point for getting scored on.
There are no corner kicks or goal kicks if the ball goes out it is a
kick in from the sideline that the ball went out on.
Safety Tips:
The ball should never be higher off the ground than knee height
and at no point in a game should there be someone doing a full
run-up to a ball to lift it across the field.
No students should be standing directly in front of a goal or in
front of another students shot to make sure that no one is
accidentally getting hit with the soccer balls.
Extension UP: To make this game harder you can add more
soccer balls on to the field so that the defenders and the offense
have a harder time keeping track of the ball and it also gives the
students more ways to be successful.
Extension DOWN: To be able to make this game easier for
students who might be struggling you can combine the four

Game 2: Ultimate Lacrosse

Sport: Lacrosse
Number of Players Per Team: Four teams of
5 players preselected by the teacher one field
will have two teams of all girls and the other
field will have two teams of all boys.
Positions: There are no particular positions in
this lacrosse game, although playing some
defense and some offense would be a good
idea.
Facility: This game is played indoors or outdoors, the field size
would be 50 feet by 90 feet (about the length of a basketball
court) with a 3 feet by 50 feet end zone on each end of the field.
Equipment and Materials Needed: 20 lacrosse sticks (boys
sticks work better than girls sticks) cones for boundaries and
pinnies for the team's, two indoor lacrosse balls.
Foci/Outcomes:
1. One focus of this game is to have the students work on their
passing, since that is the only way to score.
2. Another focus of the game would be to work on the movement of
the players off the ball.
Rules and Regulations:
6

Rock-Paper-Scissors will be played to see who throws off and who

receives (winner chooses what they would like)

The players sticks can never touch each other

No checking or trying to hit the ball out of another persons stick.

A point is scored when one team passes the the lacrosse ball to
another teammate standing in the endzone.

10

You can not take any steps when you have the ball in your pocket

11

If the lacrosse ball touches the ground at any point in the game it
is a turnover to the other team.

12

To begin after each point or to begin a game each team lines up in

front of their respective endzones.

13

After a point is scored the team that scored the point throws the
ball off to the other team to return it.

14

When the ball is on the ground the players must use their sticks
to get it back up, no use of hands or feet.

15

You may only have the ball in your stick for 5 seconds before you
have to get rid of it

16

Games are played for eight minute periods and team with the
most points at the end of the eight minutes is the winner.

17

Safety Tips :

18

1. Make sure that there is no checking or hitting of anyones lacrosse

sticks against each other.

19

2. The sticks should always have two hands on them at all times and
should not be swung around with one hand.

20

Extension UP: To make this game more challenging for students

you can add in a rule about there has to be at least five passes
before a team can score. This adds in more chance for the
defense to steal or block the ball and it makes the teammates
move around a lot more to make the passes.

21

Extension Down: Allow the player with the ball to take three
steps to try to make themselves open to throw.

Game 3: World Cup

Hockey

1.
2.

Sport: Floor Hockey

1
Number of Players Team
Per Team:
Two fields
X
X
with five teams of Xtwo players
on each team.
X
X
The teams will be picked by the students with
one male and one female student on each team.
Facility: This game can be played on half of a basketball court,
so one game will be on one half of the court and another game
will be on the other half of the court. The size of the court is
approx. 50 feet by 45 feet with a goal in the middle of the endline.
Equipment and Materials Needed: 20 floor
hockey sticks, 16 Endzone
Endzone
Endzo
pinnies different colors for each team, cones for boundaries,
cones for goals, four floor hockey balls
Foci/Outcomes:
This game is focused on shooting and giving all of the students
opportunities to be successful in front of the goal.
Another focus of this game is accuracy because the goals are so
small so the students are challenged to score on a goal smaller
than a regulation sized goal.
Rules/Regulations:
There is five teams all trying to score on one goal
The sticks should not come off of the ground
No sticks can touch at any point
When running for the ball your stick should be no higher than
waist height.
The ball will be rolled into the field and the play continues until
the ball goes out of bounds or a goal is scored.
Once a team scores a goal they are automatically moved on to
the next round and they step off of the court. Teams keep moving

24

on to the next round until there is only one team left that hasnt
scored yet then they are eliminated. Rounds continue like this
until there is only two teams that have continued to score each
round and the winner of that round faces off against the winner
from the other court.
There are no goalkeepers in the goals and goals must be scored
below waist height to count.
Safety Tips:
1. The Floor Hockey stick should never come above anyones waist
at any time during the playing of the game.
2. There are no slapshots and when hitting the floor hockey ball the
stick should never come off of the ground.
Extension UP: In order to make this game more challenging you
can add in the use of goalkeepers to make it harder for the teams
to score, causing them to have to be more accurate in their
shooting.
Extension DOWN: A way to make this game easier if students
are being challenged with it is by adding in more than one floor
hockey ball so that there is much more of an ability to be able to
score, it will also add more OTRs for the students.

Game 4: Pass-ket Ball

1.

2.

Sport: Basketball
Number of Players Per Team: There will be
four teams of five players and the teams will be
pre-selected by the teacher based on the
students skill levels making sure that all teams
are as equally skilled as they can be.
Positions/Players: In this game it will be like a typical basketball
game, there will be two forwards, two guards, and one center.
Each game the students can pick the position that they would
like to play but it should be switched each game.
Facility: This game will be played on half of a basketball court
only shooting at one basket. This means that both games could
be played on one full basketball court at once. This game can be
played on either an indoor or outdoor basketball court, whatever
is available at the school that day.
Equipment and Materials Needed: This game requires 15
pinnies for three of the teams, and two basketballs, one
basketball for each court. The game will be played within the
basketball court lines already on the court so there is no need for
cones.
Foci/Outcomes:
One major focus of this game, as the name states, is to be able to
have the students work on their passing and utilizing all different
types of passes that they can bring into a real-type of game.
Another focus of this game is to have the players without the ball
work on movement off the ball and getting open for their
teammates.
Rules/Regulations
In this game there is no dribbling of the basketball
There is no moving at all when you have the basketball in your
hands

26

You must make at least one pass to a teammate before you can
try to score a basket
If a basket is scored the team that scored does not get the ball
back, the team that was scored on gets the ball
If your team steals the ball you must pass the ball outside the
three point arc before you can try to score.
You are not allowed to shoot three pointers, all shots must be from
in the field.
Rock-Paper-Scissors is played to see who starts the game with the
ball.
Games are five minutes long.
Safety Tips:
1. Make sure that the person that you are passing the ball to is
paying attention and is ready to receive your pass, dont pass to
someone not looking or ready.
2. There is absolutely no fouling of other players no matter what.
Extension UP: To make this game more challenging for students
who are having an easy time with it you can add an extra rule on
saying that the team must complete 5 passes before a shot can
be made, and once the shot is made you have to make another 5
passes before another shot, it really focuses on the passing that is
the focus of the game.
Extension DOWN: Another modification that could be made to
help students be more successful would be allowing students to
take two steps with the ball before passing it, this will help the
students get themselves more open for a shot or pass to their
teammates.

Game 5: 5v5 Touch

Rugby
Sport: Rugby
Number of Players Per Team: We will be
playing with four teams of five players on
each team making two fields. The teams
will be selected by the students, because
there is not a large rugby background in the
school all students should be fairly evenly skilled.
Players/ Positions: There will be five players on each team so it
will only be a back line with a scrum half, since there is no
tackling there is no pack or forwards.
Facility: This game can be played indoors or outdoors on a field
that is approximately 30 yards by 20 yards big with a 5 yard tryzone on the end of each field. These fields can be lined up side
by side or back to back, just make sure there is enough room
between the fields.

2.

1.

2.

Equipment/Materials Needed: For this activity you need to

have at least one rugby ball for each field and cones marking the
end zone and out of bounds lines, pinnies are also needed to
determine who is on which team.
Foci/Outcomes
One focus of this game is to have the students work on their
passing and finding the open hole in the field
Another focus of this game is to have the defense be able to hold
their flat line and stop the offense from getting through.
Rules/Regulations:
There are NO forward passes in Rugby, the ball must go
backwards
The only way to move the ball up the field is to run with the ball,
or kick it.
There is no kicking in this game
When a player is touched with two hands, they must place the
ball on the ground and once a teammate comes to pick it up
(Usually the scrum-half) the play resumes
Each team has 3 downs (Touches) then the ball gets turned over
to the other team.
If a team scored a try, the other team gets the ball and starts
from their ten yard line and starts going the other way.
All players on the offensive team must be behind the ball at all
times.
If a defender is in front of the offensive player with the ball they
are off sides and it is an automatic first down.
All touches must be with two hands and should be between the
knees and the shoulders.
Games are 8 minutes long.
Safety Tips:
Students should always be playing attention and always be ready
for a pass from a teammate paying attention to the play of the
game.
There is no shoving of anyone if a player is touched you only need
to tap them lightly no pushing anyone excessively, it is not
needed.
29

Extension UP: To challenge students who are doing well with this
game you can put a restriction on the students saying that they
must have at least 3 passes before they can score, or you can
reduce the numbers of downs that they have to get a try.
Extension DOWN: To make this game easier for students who
are struggling with it you can increase the number of downs they
have to 5 or 6 so that the students have a greater chance to be
successful and score trys.
