Introduction: Teacher will introduce himself
s s s s s s s s s
to the class and review safety. Teacher will
review the tournament rules:
T
1.
Always the say the score before serving your
score then the opponents score.
2.
Points may only be scored when you are serving
3.
The server must be behind the line and may use
an overhand or underhand serve. The ball may NOT
hit anything on the serve. The ball MAY hit the net
during play.
4.
Any obstacle over the court is out of bounds. If
the ball hits the standards holding the net it is out of
play.
5.
If the ball lands on any part of the boundary line
it is in.
6.
The ball must be hit a minimum of 2 times and
may be hit up to three (3) times by one team before
going over the net. We encourage BUMP-SET. One
person may NOT hit the ball twice in a row but may it
again if someone else has hit it in between. The ball
MAY be played out of bounds as long as it passes over
the net between the poles. If two (2) people hit the
ball at the exact same time it counts as one hit and
wither play MAY play it again on the next hit. Any
player involved in a block may it again as the first of
that teams three (3) hits allowed (A block is not
considered a hit!).
7.
NO player is allowed to touch the net at any time.
No player may cross the center line under the net at
any time.
8.
Using any part of the body ABOVE AND
INCLUDING THE WAIST is considered a legal hit. NO
KICKING the ball!
9.
Any team that is NOT rotating properly will
forfeit the game.
10. If the ball is touched before it hits the ground it
is in play.
11. There are six (6) people on a legal volleyball
team. In our tournament, a maximum of nine players
are allowed on the court at one time. Any team with
more than nine players should rotate substitute
players as part of the rotation.

12.

Teams rotate in a Z-pattern

13. Games end on the whistle. Any point currently

being played when the whistle blows is null and void.
The game reverts back to the score of the game when
that point was being served.
14. In the event of a tie, the captains will
rock/paper/scissor for serve. Each team gets one
chance to win the game on their serve. If a game
reaches a third sudden-victory serve, whoever wins
that point wins the game.

Teacher will check for understanding on rule

numbers 2,5, and 6. Teacher will announce
what teams are playing and at which court.
Safety:
Students need to stay in their
own personal space and be aware of
their surroundings.
Students will respect the
equipment, their peers, and
themselves.
No player is allowed to touch
the net at any time
No kicking of the volleyball
NO SPIKING!!!!!!!!!!!!
3 Min warm up/practice:
In this activity, teams will get to their side of
the court they will be playing their first game
on. The team will work together to get ready
for the game. This could mean bumping and
setting the ball in a circle, hot potato style,
doing extra stretches, or warming up their
legs by running.
Transition: On the whistle, one player from
each team will return any volleyballs being
used to the volleyball bin. Once every team is
back, a whistle will be blown signifying the
start of the first games.

tournament schedule. Jack and Kyle will be

refereeing the games. All calls made by
either ref are final and non-negotiable.
Transition: Once Jack, the timekeeper, blows
the whistle signifying the end of the game,
any ball in play is considered dead. Once the
game has ended, the captain from each team
must report to Kyle, the scorekeeper, the
scores of their games.
Transition: After all the games have been
played, one player from each court will return
the volleyballs to the bin. After all volleyballs
are back, students will meet the teacher at
center court.
Closure:
I need one student to explain
the importance and give an example
of how they used teamwork when
playing in their volleyball game.
I need one student to
demonstrate the key components to
setting a volleyball and when they set
the volleyball during the games.
Great job today class! Everyone did a really
good job competing in the tournament today.
