Questions:
1. Describe how students interacted with each other, teachers, and/or administrators.
a. N/A. We did not get to meet the students. However, the
teachers we met were unbelievably helpful and informational. It seemed
they really cared about us and Springfield College as a whole.
2. What characteristics of a high school student did you witness? Give examples.
a. N/A. We did not get a chance to meet any students.
3. What rules, routines, and management techniques are used by your cooperating
teacher(s)?
a. The students get 6 minutes to get changed on each end of
the class. Students go through a warm up that involved crunches, timed
running, and pushups. If the students can not do 10 pushups, they are
encouraged to hold the push up position to increase core strength. The
run starts at 2 mins and works up to 4 mins. Students should always pick
up the equipment before leaving the gym.
4. What units are the students participating in during this time of year? How do the
teachers determine what units the students will be involved in? How long are the
units?
a. We are not sure yet what unit the students are going to be
participating in. However, they guessed that ping pong was going to be the
first unit. The students get a chance to pick their units so after the pick on
Friday we will know for sure. I am not sure how long the units are. I am

going to have to ask Coach Pod or one of my classmates for that answer,
however, I believe they are about 5 class period.
5. Any discipline issues? If so, how were they handled? What is the teachers
discipline policy?
Disciplinary actions are handled by case but when make sure whatever you say
youre going to do, you do (ex. next time you bounce the ping pong ball off the ground,
youre sitting out. They bounce the ball, make sure you actually sit them out.) A general
rule of thumb is respect the equipment and each other.
6. What are the average class sizes? How are classes divided (i.e. by grade level,
skill level, etc)?
a. Average class size is 20ish. The class I am going to be
teaching, c block, will be a larger class at about 24.
7. What is/are your biggest concern(s) about teaching at the high school level?
a. My biggest concern is getting the respect as a teacher since
my age is so close to theres. I think if I let my personality show and
present myself as a human being, they will respect and listen to me as a
teacher.
8. What are you most looking forward to in regards to teaching at the high school
level?
a. I am really looking forward to creating competition and
cooperative games that the students will eagerly participate in. I am also
exciting in teaching the strategy of the games! That is my favorite part of
sports.
