1. Racial Profiling is action made by police officers that discriminates
people of a certain race because the police are suspicious of them
committing a crime. It is discriminatory of people who look a certain
way. After the incident of September 11th, a lot of people from Arab
were discriminated against because of what they looked like and what
they wore. Many people were seen as terrorists even if they were born
in America and just wore similar clothing. There were many
precautions that took place at airports to prevent terrorism. The
contact hypothesis is being more exposed to a certain race so that
they arent as prejudice against them.
2. There are many instances in history that practice ethnocentrism. An
example would be World War Two when Hitler was against the Jews and
he planned to better the world by committing genocide and killing off
all the Jewish people. Another example was when slavery was
practiced in the United States.
3. The social construction of race is the way races are categorized in the
social construction. In the United States, it is popular to categorize
people by their skin color, hair color, eye shape, nose shape, and many
other characteristics that differentiate people. A symbolic interactionist

perspective would be looking at the interactions between people and

their intentions. It puts into consideration, the ways people were
brought up like how they were taught to talk, listen, and dress. This
concept can be applied to Americans from different races because
majority race has an advantage over the minority groups. An example
of this would be the social experiment where a Hispanic male
submitted many resumes in attempt to find a job, but he was rejected
by all of the places where he applied. A white male submitted the
same resume with a different name and also a felony to different
places and received calls back wanting to recruit him for the job.
4. Model minority is a group where the members have become successful
despite the discrimination and prejudice against them. The minority
group that has lived up to that image is Asian Americans because they
are successful in the educational scale. They receive high grades and
according to history, they have good work ethics. The advantages of
being the model minority would have to be that they are noticed more
by the majority group, which gives them some opportunities that arent
open to other minority groups. The disadvantages of being the model
minority group would have to be that they are still a minority group but
they are more popularized which means that they would receive more
discrimination.
