FINAL EXAM- ARTIFACT
Describe and explain in detail what Lean Manufacturing is. What implications are there
for the company and managers involved?
Lean manufacturing is the process of producing without all of the extra waste. It
is basically trimming the fat where it is not necessary. Some wastes that can be
eliminated in a business include things like defects, overproduction, waiting and
inventory. Managers can help in the lean management process by using the 5s
model, by implementing just in time manufacturing and automations. In a small
business, I think that lean manufacturing would be beneficial. An example I can
relate this to is a small clothing store that used to operate right next to me when I
had my business. Her store was cute cotton clothes and it was mainly geared
toward older ladies. If you walked in to her store, you would love the selection
she had but quickly notice that she didn't carry to much of the same product.
Instead of carrying excessive product, she would offer to order the outfit in your
size if you liked it and she would either have it shipped to you directly or you
could come pick it up at hr store within the next couple of days. At first I thought
her way of doing business was odd but she already had an established clientele
and so all of her customer's were already used to this way of functioning. For her,
it was beneficial because she did not have excess in product and she was able to
maximize her profit by only ordering what was necessary. Keeping a limited
amount of inventory on hand can also be very risky depending on the business
and the business must be willing to take that risk.

FINAL EXAM- ARTIFACT
Accountability is the ability to take ownership when things need to get done. It
can also be demonstrating responsibility and empowerment in achieving success
on a project. When managers assign tasks to their employees they are looking for
someone who wants to take charge and responsibility so they know that the task
will get done. They are looking for someone to step up to the plate. The job or
task can be big or small but nonetheless, important. One way in which I can relate
accountability would be in my current job. Just recently we had a meeting about
our upcoming school gala and we were presented with a problem that needed
fixing. We were explained that every year, approximately 1000 tickets to our gala
go unsold. We were explained the importance of needing to sell those this year
and how much it meant to them personally that we sell those tickets. We were
explained the benefits that could come for our school if we were to get those extra
tickets sold this year. Some of the benefits were added jobs, funds to better our
curriculum, adding new computers to our computer lab and fixing our
playgrounds. At the end of the meeting, he asked each teacher to make themselves
accountable for selling (x) amount of extra tickets to help us meet our overall
goal. He didn't make it mandatory but eagerly looked for volunteers who were
willing to hold themselves accountable. Accountability is something that needs to
be done from the managers side and the employees side.
