are quickly approaching. Students should
be consulting with their teachers and
reaching for mastery of every skill in each
course. Students with and 85 or better on
the mid-term and a 92 or better in
coursework are exempt from the final
exam.
EXCUSED ABSENCES: Please remember
that students who have over ten unexcused absences for the semester lose
credit in their class(es). Saturdays count
as regular school days. Please provide the
main office all doctors notes or other
documentation which can excuse an absence. All parents/guardians should call
the school to report a student absent.
CREDIT COMPLETION: Students who
have between 10 and 20 unexcused absences lose credit in their class(es). A
grade of NC appears on the report card.
They are eligible for credit completion to
earn the credit back. Please refer to the
policy found on the website. Credit
completion for the fall semester
must be completed before April 1,
2015. If a student exceeds 20 unexcused
absences there is no option for credit recovery. Absence for more than half of a
class (tardy or leave early) counts as an
absence from that class.

HOMEWORK CENTER: A supervised, afterschool homework center is available for the

students every week Monday Wednesday. A
free late bus will take the students home at
5:00 pm. Other students, staying after school
in supervised activities, may also use the bus.
Any student who stays late must sign up for
the after-school activity prior to fourth block
APPLICATIONS : We are accepting applications for next years lottery. Please refer your
friends and family to the school. Students who
bring in a completed application receive a free
uniform shirt! Dont forget that siblings of students are automatically accepted to the school
only if their application is received by the deadline. All applications must be received by December 23, 2014. Applications may be obtained
from the main office (phone, fax or mail) or
may be completed online at our website
www.academycharterhs.org.
WINTER SPORTSBASKETBALL &
CHEERLEADING: The winter sports season
has begun at ACHS. Both the boys and girls
basketball teams have their home openers this
Friday against North Star Academy Charter
School. Girls at 4:30 pm and Boys at 6 pm.
The boys, led by Coach Heeter and Coach Maida have a strong base of players including seven returning seniors. The girls, in their second
season with Coaches Gibson and Manfreda are
looking to improve on last years successful
season. The cheerleaders and panther mascot
are coached by Ms. Pierre (an ACHS graduate
and former cheerleader) and will keep the
crowd on their feet! Check the website for updated schedules and come cheer the Panthers
on!
Stay in the loop! Keep up to date by checking the school website:

CELL PHONES: School staff are aware

that cell phones have become an extension of our students. At times phones may
even be used in class as a learning tool.
However, electronic devices cannot become such a distraction that students lose
focus on instruction. We appreciate your
cooperation as we strive to teach our students how to keep learning #1 while controlling the use of electronics in school.
Cell phones must be out of sight and not
used during class unless there are other
specific directions.
DRESS CODE: Students and their families are reminded that even though the
temperature has plummeted, all students
must be in dress code while in school.
This means Khakis and a charter shirt or
other school logo clothing. Sweaters,
hoodies, scarves and other outerwear are
not to be worn. There is a newly revived
trend for students to wear hoods up while
in the building. This is not acceptable.
Long sleeve shirts and jackets may be
purchased if necessary. A group of students are investigating new options for
school jackets. All thermostats are set at
70 degrees and will maintain the rooms at
that temperature. Students must plan
accordingly.
