DUSABLE MUSEUM PRESIDENT HONORED DURING STATE OF ILLINOIS BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION Chicago, IL. (24 February 2016) --- Perri Irmer, President and CEO of the DuSable Museum of African American History was one of 23 African American leaders from across Illinois who recently received the Black History Month Vanguard Award from Illinois Comptroller Leslie Geissler Munger. The 23 award recipients were honored for their dedication, philanthropy and service to the community during a ceremony which was held in partnership with the Chicago Defender Newspaper at the James R. Thompson Center in Chicago on February 24, 2016. Comptroller Munger stated, The Vanguard Awards Ceremony was created to spotlight individuals who have made a profound impact on African American culture. The awardees have gained success in their professional lives and channeled that success into giving back to their communities. Upon receiving the award, Perri Irmer, President and CEO of the DuSable Museum stated, I am extremely honored to be included in such an esteemed group of honorees. I thank Comptroller Munger for this award and congratulate each of my fellow award recipients. Among the 23 honorees presented awards during the ceremony which was emceed by Art Chat Daddy Sims of WVON-1690 Radio, were: Tim King of Urban Prep Academies; Dr. Cheryl Whitaker, Next Level Health; Michael Scott, West Side Cultural Foundation; Sheila Morgan, Minority Supplier Development Council; Spencer Leak, Jr., Leak & Sons Funeral Home; and Tim Rand and Everett Rand, Chicago Football Classic. The speaker for the event was Clayton Muhammad, Communications Director for the City of Aurora and Founder on the Boys II Men organization. --end--
