Improvement (based on confidence and audit results) Coding & programming
Independent Learning Completed
8th January 2016 During our KS3 placement I
observed a year 7 computing class where they were using Scratch to build a simple pacman based game. I observed the students placing the instructions into the script section. 14th January 2016 Signed up to Scratch and watched tutorial videos of how to make simple animations. I practiced using different instructions in the scripts area and eventually animated my name. This can be found under the ICT in the Classroom section of my blog.
Spreadsheet - Excel
20th February Explored Blippit website and
watched tutorial videos on youtube. Looked at the features which could be used for Key Stage 2. Blippit Blocks allows children to simply build and de-bug programmes using basic code. 6th January 2016 Observed an ICT lesson in Year 7 where the children were using excel to input data and create bar charts. I practiced at home using Excel 2010, I inputted some made up data such as fake test scores for a handful of pupils. I then selected the cells I wanted to be displayed through column charts and pie charts.
Administration systems for recording progress
13th February Girlfriend (Maths Teacher)
showed me how they input assessment data from her Secondary school into Excel 11th December 2015 After my class had completed 2 tests in Maths the teacher showed me how she can record the data through the Abacus Activlearn site. She inputted each of the results next to the
name of the students and she was able to
compare the results between those tests completed in October. This was an easy way to track progress and flag up any students who had not made progress in their results.
E-safety & child
protection
25th Jan 5th February Observed Reception
teachers uploading observations into EYFS tracker. The teacher showed me how she could upload an observation and match the information against the developmental ages of young children. (More information on About Me page.) 19th December 2015 Completed the E-safety module on Blackboard. The educational video made me realise just how easily children can put trust in something that seems very legitimate at first. November 2015 I spoke to the technician in my GPP school who was telling me about the content restriction blogs he has placed on all the iPads in the school. He mentioned that a teacher or a pupil cannot download an app or unsuitable material without permission. If an app is approved as useful to the delivering the curriculum then it will be installed on all 120 iPads in the school. February 2016 - I explored TES for possible lesson resources. Looked at a couple of PowerPoint presentations and how some have included the use of role play getting children to play strangers.
Understanding the curriculum requirements debugging programs
I explored the website KidSmart, looking at
possible activities and example lesson plans. 18th December ICT training day at a Catholic school in Stretford. The ICT co-ordinator talked to us about the curriculum requirements and how they use some apps on the iPads to achieve certain objectives.
You can use programs like Blippit for designing
apps and software. Scratch is useful for talking about algorithms and simple code.
