the planets in the Earths solar system and
their position in relation to the sun by the end
of the lesson.

BIG UNDERSTANDING:
The student knows there are recognizable
patterns in the natural world and among
objects in the sky.
The student will be able to know where Earth
is located in the solar system and will know
there are other planets out there besides
Earth.

ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE:
The student will complete a worksheet where they fill in the name of the planet in the correct
order from the sun.

OPENING HOOK:
Play the Planet song for the class. Have a model of the solar system for the students to look at.
(I would have this in a real classroom)
INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES/ACTIVITIES
Play the Planet song for the students and have them sing along after they listen for a little bit.
Go over the planets and their position to the sun using models.
Teach them: My Very Excited Mother Just Served Us Nachos to help them remember.
Give 9 students a headband, including the sun, and have them get in the correct order from the
sun. Show them how the planets rotate.
Give them handouts to complete, showing mastery of the position of the planets in relation to
the sun.
Materials/Resources:
Planet Headbands, Planet worksheet, Planet Song, Visual of the planets, dry erase markers

Grouping Patterns:
The class will work as a group to make sure their peers know the correct spot of the planets in
relation to the sun when using the students to represent the planets.
Ending, Summary/Reflection:
After completing their worksheet and I have answered all questions we will listen to the Planet
Song again while singing along. I will show the planet visuals at this time.
