Assignment 1 Information Literacy

1) Use the Internet to find a Technology current event article

Master aerial photography: 5 drone choices for all levels-Zdnet.com
2) Write a paragraph summarizing the article
This article describes the different types of drones (UAVs) that can be found on
the market. It discusses the pricing for different aerial drones and recommends which
type to get based on your needs as a customer. A drone can cost from $500 to $50,000
depending on the package and different features of the drones. The beginner level drone
is the phantom series and the most expensive drone called the Epic Red has the best
camera of any of the other drones. (Nichols, 2016)
3) Find two additional internet articles
a. List the keywords you will use to do the search Keywords: Aerial Drone
Photography choices
b. Run the search on two different search engines.
c. Identify the search engines you used. Google and ASK
d. Compare the results from the two searches was one search engine better than
the other, why, how? (MIKE PERLMAN, 2016) The result I found on google was
an article pretty similar to the original I read in regards to which drone is best for
who. (Attkinson, 2016) On ASK the search results lead to more advertising and
places trying to sell drones rather than information about them. In my opinion,
google was better for this because it lead directly to articles of information.
4) TRAAP your sources
a. Time when was it written? Has it been updated?
Last updated February 24,2016
b. Relevance does it relate to your topic or answer your question?
Yes, it is all about drones, and which type is better for different consumers
c. Authority who is the author(s)? Are they qualified to write about this topic?
How do you know?
The Authors are Mike Perlman and Eric Hansen I believe they are qualified to
write about this because Mike Perlman is a professional photographer who has
been piloting drones for over a year and has been writing about cameras since
2007. He has had personal experience with the drones. Eric Hansen interviewed
different drone consumers across the country to gather information and collect
data.
d. Accurate is the information trustworthy? Is it supported by evidence? Has it
been tested for accuracy?
Yes, it is accurate information supported by evidence. The authors collected dada
and experienced the drones first hand before writing their opinions in the article.
Based off of what I learned about the Authors I would consider it trustworthy
information.

e. Purpose why was it written, to inform, sell, persuade? Is there a bias or is the
material objective?
I believe this article was meant to inform and persuade. It gives facts and
information about the drones but it also gives the authors opinion on which drones
are better for different situations. I think they are giving helpful information but
because it is their opinion being stated it could be considered persuasive.
5) Log into the CCBC Library website. Find two scholarly journal articles on the same
topic from the CCBC library databases
a. List the keywords you used to find the articles.
Aerial Drone Photography options/choices
b. Identify the database you used.
MasterFILE Premier
c. Why did you choose this database?
I chose MasterFILE Premier because it had an article that related to what I was
researching about drones. The article on this database seemed closer related to the
subject than others.
d. Insert a screen print

6) Compare the internet and journal articles

a. Ease of Access
I think the internet article was easier to access. There is more information on the
internet than in the journal article because it is so specific about the subject it is
written on. There is an unlimited amount of information on the internet but the
journal articles can only be accessed if you have a password to open them.
b. Timeliness

I believe that the internet is updated more often than the scholarly journal articles
therefore it is more accurate. Journal articles arent updated often or they are
rewritten and not always as soon as the information comes out like how the
internet is.
c. Authority
I think the authority on scholarly journal articles is better because they are peer
reviewed by reputable sources. Not to say that internet articles arent trustworthy
sometimes but anyone can put information on the internet and say its true but to
have an article published and reviewed the odds are better that the information
will be correct at the time it is published.
7) Cite all five sources in APA or MLA format
