To whom it may concern,

This letter is written in support of Amanda Durant as she seeks employment as teacher.
I have been her field supervisor during the past two semesters as she has been a Teacher
Candidate at Sierra Vista Middle School in Irvine, CA. I represent the secondary education
department at California State University Fullerton.
From my first visit and continuing on, I have been impressed with Amandas
professional deportment. She has a calm, nurturing demeanor that seems to permeate the
classroom and have that same quieting effect on her students behavior. She is very organized
in her lessons and brings a variety of strategies into each teaching period. There is usually
some form of written/oral warm up and at the end of each period there is a similar type of
summation. Throughout the teaching period she employs several teaching strategies other
than direct teaching. I observe that she elicits much participation from her students whether
they work in pairs, groups, or whole class discussions.
Amanda is alert and globally aware while at work in the classroom. She is available to
her students and quite approachable in her manner. As she begins the body of her lessons, she
gives an overview of the agenda and then her follow-up instructions are concise and clear. She
communicates with clarity and understanding such that her students are able to get right into
what she has directed them. Her lessons are so carefully planned that each one contains one
or more instances of applying the 13 TPEs as she teaches.
As I have mentioned above, Amanda comes to class well prepared. She has previously
collaborated with her master teacher sufficiently that her lessons are delivered articulately
and concisely. Her students are engaged with her from the outset of the instruction and their
active participation speaks to their trust and respect for her. She maintains an outstanding
learning environment in the class; the students appear to thrive in that setting. As Amanda
proceeds through a lesson she is aware of the every-present time factor and seems keen to the
proper allocation of time for each segment.
I have an absolutely positive sense about Amanda and her abilities as a teacher and Ive
enjoyed observing her at work these two semesters. She exudes an enjoyment about what
she does and I think that her students are swept up in that same attitude as they learn from
her. Amanda has my complete support as she seeks out a teaching position. She ranks in the
top five percent of the students teachers I have supervised the past seven years and if my own
children were in middle school I would have loved for them to experience her as their teacher.
Im pleased to write this letter for her and wish her my very best.
Sincerely,

CSUF Field Supervisor
