GMO foods can present significant

allergy risks to people, according to

Findings:

Benefit or
Concern?

What did you find out? What makes it a

GMO?

Explain.

Big companies like monsanto make GMO corn. They make it insect
repellent, have more vitamins, uses less pesticides, and is
sweeter.

This is a benefit because

having insect repellent
corn can make growing
corn more practical for
farmers with bug
concerns making local
produce more readily
available.

Soybeans

Monsanto was the first company to introduce GM soybeans. They

used GMO to to make larger quantities, more, and healthier
soybeans.

This is a benefit because

making more and bigger
soybeans will make them
cheaper for people that
cant afford them.

Cotton

GM cotton has become widespread, covering a total of 15 million

hectares in 2007, or 43 percent of the world's cottonGMO
compass website states. Protects cotton from pests and insects.
There were less pesticides used, makes the cotton grow faster,
and the GMO is not harmful to people.

These are all benefits

because cotton gets
produced faster, also
there is less cost by not
using pesticides and not
losing crops to insects.

Papaya

The most common use of GMO for papaya is to cure it of the

ringspot virus. They use a certain capsid injected into the DNA of
the papaya to make it immune to the ringspot virus. The ringspot
virus is not harmful to humans at all it just infects the papaya and
its looks.

I would say this is a

benefit, but I dont really
see the problem because
it is not harmful to
people. It does make it
more appealing though
so it does boost the

papaya industry.

By implanting GMO in the canola it can dormant the soil for up to

10 years because certain crops cannot grow with the same soil
that the GMO canola has grown in.

This is a big concern

because there are
certain crops that cannot
grow because of this and
it can become a big
setback to farmers.
