Leadership is a behavior that is exhibited by leader while taking important
decisions for achieving a common goal, which is set up by the team in agreement with the leader. Leadership is a position of power held by an individual in a group, which provides him with an opportunity to exercise interpersonal influence on the group members for mobilizing and directing their efforts towards certain goals. The leader is at the center of groups power structure, keeps the group together, infuses life into it, moves it towards its goals and maintains its momentum. Various theories since years have been formulated by psychologists to explain the traits of a leader. Certain traits of a good leader were listed by the researchers as: intelligence, extraversion, and adjustment, openness to experience. It has been inferred that an individual possessing these traits results as a good leader. Another theory suggests that great events lead an ordinary individual to emerge as a leader. Then there is a third theory which emphasizes that leadership is a transformation or a process. Anyone can become a leader by learning the leadership skills. All forms of leadership are essentially about transformation. Transformation is about leaders and followers intending to pursue real changes actively. Leadership is not about maintaining the status quo; it is about initiating change in an organization instead. The process of leadership always involves a certain number of transactional changes. Leadership is an extension of the leaders beliefs. A highly personal core competence is only from within the leader. Leadership essentially includes followers, common goal and person with power to influence people to work towards that common goal and a strong belief or vision which originates from the leader and runs throughout the team, all this factors constitutes leadership according to me.
