Probably no group of people, other than my parents, has done more to shape my

life than my teachers and Rebbeim. As early as elementary school, I had a fourth grade
teacher who had a way of making boring work fun. He was the first teacher to make
learning personal to me. I will never forget the care my teachers showed me, their
enthusiasm for learning, and the way they made everything we did seem fun. I was also
fortunate to have high school teachers who also inspired me, encouraged me and
motivated me. Our school had an especially gifted faculty of Rebbeim who helped me
develop my love for learning. In fact, I probably owe my decision to pursue a career in
education/chinuch to that fourth grade teacher and his knack for teaching the basics and
to the High School Rebbeim who explained concepts so well and challenged me to excel.
Its interesting to think about what my life would be like if not for the influence of
those teachers, and all the other teachers, who also touched my life. This is why teaching
is such a noble profession and such a tremendous responsibility. Teachers never know the
impact a small gesture or word has on a child how one smile or one special activity can
build a childs confidence and motivate their learning. My goal in life is to be the best
Mechanech / Rebbe that I can be. My hope is that by doing so, I will be able to inspire
through personal example, and teach the children who will be my talmidim. By
combining Semicha with a degree in Education, I expect to enable myself to understand
children at all levels, to the best of my ability, which will allow me to influence them,
guide them and make a positive difference in their lives.

We are taught from very early on that education is the lifeblood of Judaism.
Vtalmud Torah kneged kulam. Rav Chaim of Volozhin taught in his Nefesh Hachaim

that Torah study is the entity from which all the mitzvoth radiate. It is the origin of all
mitzvot. Chazal question, which is greater, Talmud or maaseh? They conclude that
studying Torah is greater because it leads to action. One who does not know the Torah,
cannot practice the mitzvoth properly. The torah emphasizes our duty to educate our
children in Torah values, Jewish tradition, and life skills. I am interested in Jewish
Education because I feel that by combining Semicha with a degree in education, I will be
able to accomplish this goal and fulfill this duty. I hope that I will be able to make a
difference in students lives by giving them not only the Torah knowledge, but also the
love of Torah, so that they can be shomer torah umitzvot properly.
I look forward to finishing and earning my MS at Azrieli. I hope to use the
knowledge and experience that I have obtained in the unique Azrieli environment, to
further my goal of serving in a leadership position in the educational world with the
appropriate skills to influence Jewish youth. By receiving a Masters in Education from
Azrieli I am confident that I am well equipped with the required knowledge, skills and
outlook, to serve as a highly qualified Jewish educator.
