Rules apply to events held by the New Virginia Saddle Club


General Show Rules & Regulations for 2016
(Revised March 2016)
FEDERAL PROTECTION ACT IS IN EFFECT AT ALL TIMES.
Show Rules
1.

New Virginia Saddle Club is not responsible for accidents or thefts.

2.

Any disputes, concerns, or complaints must be sent in writing within 5 days of the event to New Virginia Saddle
Club P.O. Box 461 New Virginia, IA 50210. Complaints shall be handled in appropriate and professional
manner.

3.

Any disputes, dishonesty, immoral actions or statements will be handled by any means necessary upon
agreement of the show committee. At least 2 committee members must be present in deciding best action to
be made.

4.

Swearing and/or use of vulgar or threatening behavior towards spectators, exhibitors, judges, horses, or officers
will not be tolerated. You will be asked to leave the grounds.

5.

Unsportsmanlike conduct is unacceptable in both children and adults and may result in asking such persons to
leave the premises as well as disqualification for event or events where misconduct was observed. If this
conduct continues action will be taken resulting in disqualification from royalty contest.

6.

No hitting, whipping, or smacking of animals in front of the saddle. Violators will be disqualified.

7.

New Virginia Saddle Club encourages a code of honor in distinguishing ages, riding levels, awards and general
conduct at any meeting or event associated with this club. Any dishonest actions may result in termination of
membership as agreed upon by committees and/or officers.

8.

Horses and ponies with height restrictions will be measured upon entry by a present NVSC member. Ponies
heights will be 56 & under.

9.

Gaited horses are welcome at anytime.

10.

Entry fees are $10.00 per person all day, $25.00 all day per family, $3.00 per person per class per horse. To
show additional horses in any one class, a $3.00 per entry must be paid for the additional horse.

11.

Entry Fees and Sponsorships are non-refundable. Entry fees & memberships must be paid for at the time of
registration. If fees are not paid before your class enters the ring you will be ineligible to show and will be
asked to leave the ring. Entry booth will remain open for registration during shows.

12.

Upon paying entry fee of $3.00 per class instead of the all day fee, entrant can later enter additional classes
throughout the day; however they must continue to pay the $3.00 per class fee. And it has to be paid before
your class enters the ring.

13.

Age determination shall begin as of January 1st of each year both horse and rider. (Verification may be
requested).

14.

ALL riders MUST dismount before leaving arena in timed events. Rider will be disqualified if he/she does not
dismount before leaving arena. This is for the safety of riders, horses, and spectators!

15.

There will be a 5-second penalty for knocking down poles or barrels, and a disqualification (no time) resulting
from broken pattern or dropping of flags or rings.

16.

Proper show attire, long sleeved shirts, blouses, nice jeans, skirts, show slacks, approved riding boots, western
hat, or helmet, if preferred.

17.

Shows will be cancelled upon poor conditions of the arena and the grounds. See New Virginia Saddle Club
Facebook for any updates.

18.

Upon signing a membership form, a liability waiver must be signed in order to take part in horse-related
activities.

19.

Mules are welcome at any time. Any mule ridden in Mule Pleasure cannot be ridden in Western Pleasure or
Ranch Horse Pleasure. But can be ridden in Western Pleasure or Ranch Horse Pleasure but not Mule Pleasure.

21.

No alcoholic beverages allowed on the grounds. You may be asked to leave the grounds.

22.

Lead line riders 2 to 8 must be accompanied by a family member 12 & over, or 16 & over non family member
with consent of parent or guardian and are not eligible for performance classes. But, can be led in the games.

23.

Riders 9 and under cannot be lead in performance classes. A parent can stand in the center of arena without
touching horse or rider. But can be led in the games.

24.

No guns, weapons, or firearms of any nature allowed on the premises.

25.

SAFETY HELMETS ARE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED FOR ANY RIDERS.

26.

The cost of sponsoring a class is $50.00 per year and may be split between parties. Names of persons or
business will be printed on show bill, announced at the shows, and be listed on our website.

27.

In the event of adding additional classes to the show bill such as novice, Jr. Horse, Green Horse, or beginner
riders, each division will be distinguished by these definitions and restrictions:
Novice English or Western riders shall be defined as those riders that have limited showing experience or have
not placed above third in a class. Once the contestant places 1st, three times in the novice class, they will no
longer be eligible to participate in novice classes.
Junior Horse AQHA rules state a horse 5 years old and younger.
Green Horse - Determined by the amount of hours under the saddle.
Senior Horse AQHA rules state a horse 6 years old and older.

28.

To enter the Special Challenges class the rider must wear a helmet and be accompanied by an adult of at least
18 years of age. (For qualifications see Special Olympics Equestrian Guidelines)

29.

Entrants must be ready at the gate for classes entered in unless the announcer is notified of a tack change at
least one class in advance.

30.

New Virginia Saddle Club reserves the right to combine or omit classes if necessary.

31.

If showing in Western Pleasure you are not eligible to show the same horse in Ranch Horse Pleasure. You must
choose either Western Pleasure OR Ranch Horse Pleasure.

32.

Please all EZ Ups must be behind the benches. For everyones safety please anchor them down.

33.

In Hand Trail class participants cannot ride in the regular Trail class, unless its a different horse.

Membership Rules and Guidelines


1.

Membership dues: Family - $25.00 per year (defined as any persons residing together in the same house).
Single - $15.00 per year.

2.

Membership is required in order to show or ride in New Virginia Saddle Club shows.

Royalty Contest Rules


1.

Queen hours must be worked by August 1, 2016, or the runner up will go to the State Fair to represent New
Virginia Saddle Club.

2.

Contestants must have been a NVSC member 6 months prior to the royalty contest.

3.

Individual contestants for Jr. & Sr. Queen & King must serve at least 4 verified club hours at NVSC shows or at
the NVSC arena conducting community service (Concessions, trash pickup, etc.). THESE DO NOT INCLUDE
FAMILY MEMBER SERVICE HOURS. Credit hour forms must be competed and verified by another club member
other than a family member by June 1, 2016. (Or August 1, 2016)

4.

Individual contestants for Prince & Princess must serve 2 verified club hours at NVSC shows, or at the NVSC
arena conducting community service (Concessions, trash pickup, etc.). THESE DO NOT INCLUDE FAMILY
MEMBER SERVICE HOURS. Credit hour forms must be competed and verified by another club member other
than a family member by June 1, 2016.

5.

Contestants must wear long sleeve solid color shirts (no bling), dark jeans/pants/skirts and boots. All
contestants must wear hats or helmets. HELMETS ARE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED FOR ALL CONTESTANTS.

6.

Age is determined as of January first of the contest year. Classes are divided as follows:
*Queen & King-Ages 16-26
*Junior Queen/King-Ages 10-15
*Prince & Princess-Ages 9 and under

7.

Royalty contestants will compete during regular June show. They will be judged in a Royalty Salute, Ride, and
Stop around the arena by the appointed show judge.

8.

Any dispute in the Royalty Contest should be brought to the attention of the NVSC Board and/or show
committee to be handled appropriately.

9.

Duties of the King & Queen include representing the NVSC at the following events:

Compete in the Iowa State Fair Royalty Contest


Participate in the New Virginia Old Settlers Day Event & Parade
Attend NVSC Shows
Attend the NVSC annual banquet
Participate in the Iowa Horse Fair
Reining Royalty should make every attempt to attend and help at all club functions, in
their Royalty attire and should always represent the NVSC in a positive manner.

**Title holders are encouraged to attend events at other saddle clubs, etc. to promote and represent the NVSC.
**Should these duties not be met, the King or Queen will be asked to step down from their position and an
alternate will be chosen by the board from the list of candidates from the same Royalty Contest. Emergency
exceptions may be made by the NVSC Board should they arise.
