To Whom It May Concern: Emily Clark has been a student teacher in the music department at Horne Street School since January of 2016. Horne Street is a K-4 elementary school of over 500 students in Dover, NH. She is responsible for teaching 24 classes of general music, beginning instrumental lessons, fourth grade band, and fourth grade chorus. Ms. Clark has shown professionalism in her daily assignments. She is always punctual, responsible, and well prepared for her duties as a music intern. From our first meeting, she impressed me with her diligence in finding a good match for her student teaching experience. She observed my classes and even worked as a substitute teacher in our school before deciding upon her teaching assignment. Her lesson planning shows understanding of the importance of a consistent, standards based music curriculum. When designing a kindergarten lesson, Ms. Clark integrated ideas from our school wide reading theme, Read Around the World. Students performed songs from around the world while staying true to music learning objectives. Horne Street School has a large population of students with diverse needs and unique learning styles. She has been involved with creating lessons that integrate Social Emotional Learning through the arts for all grade levels. Students tackle concepts such as self-awareness, self-regulation, and cooperative learning through musical activities. Ms. Clark is beginning to conduct pieces with both the band and the chorus. The band is comprised of approximately 70 fourth grade students and the chorus has 90 members. She is gaining valuable experience in classroom management for both small classes and large performing ensembles and is showing growth in this area. As a member of the National Guard, Ms. Clark plays with the 39th Army Band. She was instrumental in bringing the group to Horne Street School to give a well received assembly for all of our students. Emily Clark will be an asset to any elementary school music program and I am confident that she will continue to grow both as a teacher and a learner with every new opportunity. I will be happy to discuss Ms. Clarks qualifications further. Feel free to contact me by phone or email, (603) 781 9942 or r.drysdale@dover.k12.nh.us Sincerely, Roseanna Drysdale
