Target Audience

Mostly girls but boys as well

(ages 5-19)
To allow people to get in contact with the business and show a range of products
offered by my business.
To promote products and try and gain more potential customers.
Create a bootstrap website for dancers and parents
Karen Mcavoy

Target audience: The most common people who will be using my website is parents of dancers and dancers of
all ages in order to buy dancewear and shoes. The services being offered by the website is the online shopping
where they can add items to the basket and pay using different methods via the internet. My websites target
audience is based on people who are not only interested in dance, but also are able to spend some money on
the products in order to enhance their dancing experiences. My website needs to be accessible to all users,
which is why I am going use bootstrap because it is more responsive and the website can then be easily viewed
on mobiles, laptops and desktop PCs. I will make my website so that customers can actually use the sites
functions. I will ensure that my customers trust the site enough to pay money out for one of the available
products or services. Buying online is easier as you dont have to stumble through clothe rails however they
might not have what you want in stock when you need it. In my website I will include photos of the products
and include details such as prices and brands. When adding the pictures, I will make sure they are in proportion
in terms of their aspect ratio. The colour scheme will be mostly pink, purple and some blue parts such as my
social media icons.

The functional requirements:

Amount of pages -

I would like a minimum of 3 or 4 pages. When Im creating my bootstrap website I will keep this in
mind especially when planning and completing the production stages of the work. I will think carefully
as to what order I make the pages in and the overall look of each page. I will keep a similar layout
throughout my product pages and all the text will be the same size.

Necessary banner / animated carousel -

A banner or carousel of images to be created for my front page to show featured products, they will change every 10
seconds and the carousel will consist of about 5-6 images. This gives customers something to look at when they first open
the website. I am going to include a logo in the top left hand corner of my page which would take you back to the home
page. If I have time I will include my discount banner at the top of my website. My web banner will look like this:

Page 1

Navigation bar -

My navigation bar will be clearly structured as to allow customers to use it with ease, it will also include a couple of small
dropdown menus so customers can find products easily. There will also be a search bar in the top right hand corner so
customers can find things if it not listed in the dropdown menu or navigation bar. The general bootstrap layout is as follows
in the image below. My navigation bar will be similar to the one below left.

Colour Scheme and Background -

My website is going to have a colour scheme which appeals to the target audience and is consistent throughout my site. It
will include a complimentary and limited colour scheme and therefore I will need to make sure that I use different shades
of the same colour so that they contrast and blend in with my website theme chosen. The colour scheme of my web banner
will be the only thing that stands out as it has to catch potential customer attention.

Screen Icon -

Im going to use at least two custom-made screen icons which obviously need to link in with the rest of the site, the two I
am going to use are Facebook and Twitter. These screen icons will be located at the right end of my navigation bar so that
they can easily be seen and used.

Web Graphics -

In my website I will make sure that it includes suitable web graphics so that its attractive to look at and helps to create a
good website design throughout. My opening image choice will be important and I will have to make sure that I dont
discriminate anyone when choosing them. I might have to alter image sizes in Photoshop if necessary. In Dreamweaver
there are default sizes required based on the templates, in order to create a web page optimised for the web.

Links -

Throughout the website, a range of different links need to be used; including, text links, button links and graphic links.
Internal links can have any name they want so you know what they are. There will be a mix of both internal and external
links, an internal link include a link that takes you to another page of the same website for example on mine if you click on
the logo image it takes you to the home screen. An external link is one which takes you to a totally different website. For
example on my website I might have a link which takes you to a page such as a brands website like Bloch.

Tables -

I like the use of tables, by using them it means my information will be well organised and easy to read. It will look more
professional. In a table I may compare two different brands of clothing saying the pros and cons of each.

Text -

For my body content text, I will use a font which is appropriately formatted with a font of sans or sans serif. Some examples
such as Ariel, Verdana or Calibri would be ideal for my website as they are easily readable and clear to see. My text will be a
colour which stands out from the background colour which I will pick when I start designing my website in Dreamweaver. I
wont be picking the colour in advance as I want to see what the different colour schemes look like before deciding my final
one.

Form -

In my website I will include an active form to collect customers details, this will be collecting details such as the customers
phone number, email address, card details etc. In my website forms the items listed below will be included:

Page 2

Victoria Holt

Check boxes There will be check boxes for things like agreeing to terms and conditions or being contacted again
by the company. An example of this would be when the form on the websites asks a question like Do you give
permission to get updates from the website.
Radio buttons This could be a question like Are you male/female? to see whether this affects the results shown
on the form.
List menus This is when there is more than one option is given in a list. E.g gender
Buttons On the form there will be buttons that you can click like submit and reset form which directs the website
into a function you want to do.
Set some fields as required fields such as the email.
In the form I will set some max character lengths up so that people dont write too much or too little on the long
answer questions on the form.
Set the tab index accordingly so that

Email Address -

There must be a link to an email address where potential customers can send questions about specific products or
regarding anything about the site in general. An email address is also good for business as it means that there is another
way of interacting and speaking to customers. The email address is also good for sending out newsletters or promotion
deals to potential regular customers gaining more sales.

Embedded Media -

This may be a video or embedded google map possibly found on my contact us page so that you can get directions to the
shop or watch tutorial videos on things like how to tie pointe shoes and how to break pointe shoes in.

Accessibility -

The website needs to be accessible to everyone who will use the website, in order to do this, it will appear in the form of
pop-ups on graphics, valid alternate text and a consistent font & colour. I will add pop ups to the graphics to tell people
what brand and such the item is. I will make sure my search engine optimisation is correct so that everything works
properly and is suitable for use on the web.
Page titles
Every time you click on a new page there will always be the logo in the top left corner and the main navigation bar along
the top which stays on the page as you scroll. The page titles will be around size 48 in font size and a font such as Arial or
Broadway.
Meta tags
Meta tags are a type of coding which provides the search engine with information and enables it to find a page so that
someone can easily search for what they want. They are normally placed near the top of the HTML as part of the heading.
In my website I will add keywords and descriptions so that the customers access is quicker and easier.

Resources required for my websites:

For my website I will firstly need some web authoring software such as Dreamweaver. I will also need the
internet to find out some information and details about different dancewear brands. I will also use Photoshop to
get rid of any unnecessary background colours on my images. This will make my images look more professional
as they will blend in with the background image/colour better. Already I have created and collected resources
such as photos from google images. I will use my own camera to take some pictures of the dance items I already
have from my hobby at home, some of the pictures will include my pointe shoes, leotard and leggings,
tap/ballet/jazz shoes. I already have some images at home which I may scan into the computer to add to my
website on the products page. The resources I collected will fit into the design of my website by showing the
products being sold on the website and they will add to the design by being laid out in lines with about 4 items
per row. I have also created the images for my screen icons, navigation bar/buttons, logo and web banner. I
have also planned out the layout of each page for my website in order for it to look organised and easy to read.
They will be positioned in the correct places which you see on most responsive bootstrap websites. One of the
websites for my research and brand types will be Bloch dancewear, this is a fairly well-known brand and site.

Details of each page for my website:

Home: In this page there will be pictures, the navigation bar, advertisements, text and my
logo will be in the left hand corner. It will have a similar layout to the image shown right.
You can get to each new page using the navigation bar and go back to the home screen
using the logo image.
Womens dancewear/shoes: Womens dancewear and shoes will be two different sections
on the navigation bar. On each individual products page there will be specific layout of
rows with each brand and type of product being sold. On the products page there will be pictures of shoes,
dancewear, and hair accessories so that people can click on different sections so users can navigate around the
website easily. Under each image of a product there will be details such as prices, names of the products and
star ratings.
About us/contact us: These two titles will be combined together in one section. On this page there will
information about the business and who they are. There will also be the history of the business. Along with
information about the types of products and brands which are on offer to sell. As for the multimedia elements
on this page there will be images and maybe a video. Also a map of where the business is located. This page will
be similar to the contact us page. This page will give the user some information about where the shop and place
is based, you can also get hold of telephone numbers, email address, directions and opening times. There will be
a google maps on this page which will be interactive. There will be a place on this website which ask you if you
want to sign up/register with the website and if so whether you want advertisement emails being sent to your
computer or not.

Timescale: When I look at my ILP I can see that we have quite a large timescale in order to complete the
production of the website. I have until the 22/3/16 in order to complete all the planning and designs for my
website and to learn some of the software skills needed to make my website. I then have 5 weeks after Easter to
create my website and create an evaluation. I think this is long enough to create my website after getting to
grips with the software I will be using.
Copyright issues:
Copyright is a law which protects things such as documents, images, text, music files and videos, these are
mostly things found on a computer as it is easier to steal work especially if its published on the web. The reason
why copyright is used is because it ensures that your work is safe and cannot be copied by anyone. Another
purpose of copyright is to make sure that a creators work is protected if it ever gets stolen. It also made sure
that people got rewarded for the things they made themselves. The law was created and put in place in 1988. If
this act wasnt put in place, there would be little anyone can do legally if their work was stolen or claimed as
their own. You can only break the copyright law if you have taken something which was initially someone else
without their permission. If the copyright isnt with the creator themselves, it can sometimes be hard to track
but using primary assets without their permission may put you in trouble due to you being in violation of this
copyright law. The person who holds the copyright is the only person who can authorise the reproduction of
work even if the work is on an electronic device.
Currently you dont need to apply or register for this law to be put in place as it is done automatically, this then
lasts for a lifetime and an extra 70 years after the creator has died. After the 70 years has passed the copyright is
then usually handed down to the creators heirs. If someone is commissioned to do any kind of design work,

Page 4

Victoria Holt
they will retain the copyright until both parties decide otherwise. If the visual creators are employed and not
working for themselves, the employer is the one who retains the copyright.
With images you can get ones called stock photos which are photos where the copyright owner has decided to
allow the public to freely use them. These are normally found on the internet as this is a place where a lot of
useful resources are kept these days. Sometimes strict rules are put in place with the stock photos stating where
and when the photos can be used, these rules are made by the copyright owner so it is vital that you read what
the copyright holder has specified first. Also with images you can buy the right to use a copyrighted image if you
wanted that particular image.

Confidentiality issues
This is a set of rules or promise that restricts access to certain types of information. I will make sure that any
information on my website is fully accessible and wont put anything on that I dont want people to see. I will
also make sure no ones personal details or information is accessible to others using the site. This type of
information will be submitted via the forms that I will create for my website.
There is a law called The Data Protection Act 1998, this is put in place to make sure peoples data is kept safe. It
is basically an act of Parliament of the UK and Northern Ireland. It is a piece of legislation that governs the
protection of personal data. This is where I am going to make sure that everyones data is kept so that no one
else can view. I will also add privacy settings so that peoples information such as card details cant be seen by
others.

Discuss ethical and moral reasons:

In any part of a multimedia product such as a website there will always be restrictions in concerns to exactly
what you want to say and what youre allowed to do. This is normally put in place to protect people from things
such as racism, which not only may offend someone but may also cause problems. The internet is not
somewhere where you can escape these problems. It is clear that it is easier to break these laws online as it is all
done anonymously (so no-one knows who you are). Things can still be tracked and so therefore some things on
the internet are still not allowed. Different media roles such as radio presenters and television channels have
more restrictions and are more heavily enforced, where content may be published nationally. If someone finds a
piece of information offensive to them in any way, then they may be able to sue the company for a lot of
money. There are some rules in which you can avoid this such as:
Not being allowed to use a picture, video or sound clip of anyone unless you have their permission
(sometimes this may be needed in writing).
Youre not allowed to make a verbal statement about anyone, which can be seen as abusive or could
harm his or her reputation. This is called Slander.
You cant write a written statement about an individual which could be seen as abusive or harm their
reputation. This is called Libel.
The copyright laws suggest that we are not allowed to use any part of someone elses work without
their permission.
Being careful when representing and describing content, as you have to make sure you are both
unbiased and accurate. This applies to race, gender, sexuality, disability, nationality, class, religion and
age.
Not using bad language, full-nudity, offensive material to race, gender, religion, sexual orientation or
disability.
Not using any references to drugs and/or people in respect of libellous content.
From all of this we know that one of the groups is inferior to the other otherwise you are definitely in breach of
this rule and the product may not be viewable. One of the laws, which works alongside these rules, is The Race

Page 5

Victoria Holt
Relations Act. The Race Relations Act was the first legislation in the UK, which has dealt with the racial
discrimination issues.
When creating my multimedia website, Im going to ensure that I dont break any of these rules. I will do this by
getting permission when using any images from the internet or just make sure there not copyrighted ones. On
the other hand, if I dont get any permission from the owner I will use a different picture or try and take my
own. The same will also be applied to videos. Basically I will need to get permission before downloading and
adding the video into my product, even if there not copyrighted.
The most important thing I will consider is the content as this will need to be appropriate and safe to include in
my website, I will have to make sure not to discriminate anyone.

Discuss legal considerations:

Legal information required on a website - For a registered business, the website needs to display the
following company information such as the business name, place of registration, registered number, its
registered office address and if it is being wound up. This information for a business must be written on business
letters, notices, endorsements, cheques, invoices, receipts and all its websites.
Requirements of W3C in terms of accessibility of your website Websites must make sure they keep to the
three checkpoints:
Number 1 If a web content developer doesnt keep to this checkpoint one or more groups will find it
impossible to access information on the website. This is the most basic checkpoint in order to allow users to be
able to use web documents.
Number 2 - If a web content developer doesnt keep to this checkpoint one or more groups will find it hard to
access information on the website. This will remove many barriers to accessing the web documents.
Number 3 - If a web content developer doesnt address this checkpoint one or more groups will find it
somewhat hard to access information on the website. This will improve access to web documents.
By keeping to these guidelines means that anyone even people with disabilities will be able to use, view and
operate the website easily. These guidelines need to be kept to not only by the web developer but also by
anyone who adds content to the website using a content manager. Images that are added to the site should
have the ALT attribute added to provide alternate text
If the website collects user data in a form, they must display a Privacy Policy informing the user what the
business does with the data and that it conforms to The Data Protection Act. The Privacy Policy needs to explain
to the user what cookies the website will create and what they are for. A website requires user consent to leave
cookies on the visitors machine, unless the cookie is a necessary requirement for the website to function. The
data protection act is a law put in place to protect peoples data on a website in the UK. The website Act states
that personal data is:

Fairly and lawfully processed

Processed for limited purposes
Adequate, relevant and not excessive
Accurate and up to date
Not kept for longer than is necessary
Processed in line with your rights
Secure
