Consumer Spending on Different Items in Five Different States in 2014

The table shown above compares the percentage of consumer spending on 3 different items
namely food or drinks, clothing or footwear and leisure or education between 5 different states
across Malaysia in the year of 2014.
It is noticeable that the majority of the consumers in all states have spent more on food
and drinks than any other category. The table had shown that consumers in Kelantan had the
highest spending on food or drinks with the percentage of 30% which was also the highest
percentage spending of all the items listed whereas Kedah consumers spent the least on food and
drinks which marked only 26.9%. In contrast, the Kelantanese consumers spent the least on
leisure and education than any other item, spending 1.9% unlike Kedah consumers which spent
slightly high, about 6% on leisure and education.
Besides, Johorean spending on clothing and footwear as well as leisure and education
was almost similar with the different of 0.1% on both categories. On the other hand, Sarawakian
consumers had the highest gap of percentage which marked 7% difference of spending on these
two categories. Moreover, Sabah and and Sarawak spending percentage was relatively similar
with the difference of 25.9% and 25% respectively between the highest and the lowest spending
percentage of the items listed. On the other hand, Kelantan consumers spending percentage had
the largest difference of spending percentage while, Kedah consumers had the smallest
difference of spending percentage between the highest and the lowest spending percentage.

Overall, food and drinks is the most dominant spending of all the three categories while,
less was spent on leisure and education. In addition, Johor consumers spending percentage was
generally higher than any other states of all categories, while consumers in Sarawak spending
percentage was the least.
