    Legislative Branch
    Write bills or plan for new laws
    Congress- is the legislative branch of the federal

    government
    Congress is made up of 2 parts
    Senate
    House of Representatives

    General Assembly- North Carolina legislative

    branch
    Senate- 50 members (Senators)
    House of Representatives- 120 members

    Executive Branch
    Sees that laws are carried out
    May also suggest ideas for new laws
    North Carolinas governor leads the executive

    The governor has a 4 year term


    If the governor approves a bill, it becomes a

    law, if he vetos it, it goes back to the general


    assembly

    Judicial Branch
    Sees that laws are carried out fairly
    Decides if laws agree with the Constitution
    Supreme Court- federal government judicial branch
    State courts- North Carolina judicial branch
    All judges in the state are elected

    The state courts review decisions made by lower

    courts
    Justices- Seven judges who serve on the North

    Carolina supreme court. They are elected for eightyear terms
