Through some of the lists that published by the Washington Post, the word that intrigues
me is abdicate. The word abdicate is a common word that has a meaning which is to give up
or renounce ones throne or to fail to take responsibility for something. However, abdicate
wined to the Washington Posts yearly neologism contest by supplying alternate meaning for a
common word. The definition of the neologism abdicate is to give up all hope of ever having a
flat stomach.
The neologism, abdicate made by a common word abdicate; consequently, it came
from the original word. The original meaning of the verb abdicate came from the combination
of the Latin ab- away and dicare proclaim. Although the new and old definition of this word
is similar, the neologism abdicate is directly attributable to people who are on a diet or not on a
diet because of the effect of the new culture from the society.
Abdicate has had cultural impact to the society. These days, society is becoming
appearance-oriented views by some changing culture. People are interested in taking care of the
way they look, and it makes to refrain from getting fat. The way that do not get fat is on a diet,
but it is hard to spend much time to exercise and to do not eat high calorie foods. Therefore,
people who feel it is hard to on a diet could give up their diet. In todays society, everyone wants
to have a flat stomach but it is with the efforts which have a pain. This neologism abdicate is
the word for people who are trying or not trying to exercise to have a flat stomach.
