A similar situation can be seen in Europe, which has 15% of the slobal population but 30% of global wealth, and the rich (high income) Asia-Pacific countries with 5% of the world’s population but 249 ofits wealth, ‘On the other hand, the total wealth of people in China, india, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the other poor (lower income) countries in Asia-Pacific is far less than their shares ofthe world population. Nowadays, it isthe norm for both parents to work. This situation can affect children both positively and negatively. Some people think that the children of working parents are in an advantageous position where their parents are able to afford ‘more luxuries such as new clothes, video games or mobile phones. Proponents of this view argue that children are able to enjoy and experience more from life ue to their parents’ extra wealth, for example, by going on foreign holidays. (On the other hand, however, here are those who claim that when both parents work, their children do not get enough support and attention; meaning that these children might not do as well at school because there is no one at home to provide support with such things as homework or exam revision. The absence of a parent at home could make it easier for children to get involved in such things as drugs or underage drinking. When I was growing up, both my parents worked and I was always well provided for. On the other hand. I think that it would sometimes have been better iI could have seen more of my parents, In conclusion, I believe that we cannot change the fact that both parents have to work nowadays, Itis not an ideal situstion, but if Parents make time for their children in the evenings and at the weekends, then the children will not suffer in any way. Infect I think some young people today are so rebelious that is possible that both parentsand teachersare afraid to exercise their authority. However, Ido not agree that this is the basic reason forthe increase in teenage violence. While I believe its true that a lack of social and emotional learning contributes tothe problem, other factors are surely involved: economic factors for example. Ia child comes from a poor family and they live in low-quality housing in an undesirable area, ths is sure to affect the child, however loving the parents are. ‘There isalso the question of who your friends are, [believe that, ‘when you are in your teens your friends have more influence on ‘you than your parents or teachers. At that age, you want to be part of a group, or even a gang, and this might lead to breaking the law in a number of ways
