1. Select (3) digital media type from those you have learnt in this course,
highlighting its strengths/benefits for education and suggest (4) specific
ways teachers in your school you can use this technology to enhance
instruction- 12 marks
Answer:
1. Theme Poems - The teachers involved in early childhood Care can use
theme poems to enhance classroom instruction by:
(i) Asking the children to describe what they know about different objects
and then working with them to write a poem. This encourages the children to
use their memory and recall skills and provides them with a sense of pride
saying that I helped write a poem.
(ii) When teachers are introducing new topics to their students this is a
simple and creative way to present the information to the children that is
easy for them to understand.
(iii) When using an application such as the theme poem generator and you
allow the students to help write the poem, in some situations the teacher can
learn if any of their children are going through emotional distress depending
on the topic of the poem. The poem can be used to help the children
recognise emotions and to regulate them.
(iv) The use of poems in the classroom opens avenues for writing. It
encourages the children to build their thoughts in a creative way that is
different from normal language arts curriculum.
2. Prezi - The teachers involved in Early Childhood Care can use Prezi to
enhance classroom instruction by:
(i) It brings lessons to life. The movement of the Prezi keeps the attention of
the children, the heightened attention allows for the children to focus on
what is being presented to them therefore increasing the chance of
remembering the work.
(ii)Prezi allows for pictures, videos, texts and other forms of media files to be
attached to the presentation easily which helps keep the information

relatable to the children as they have visual aspects to keep their focus.
(iii) Prezi is a great way for teachers to share the information learned with
other teachers as well as parents. If a student or teacher is absent, sharing
the link with them allows them easy access to the work with no stress.
(iv). Prezi can keep a teacher organised. Instead of carrying a lot of different
pictures or books or stories. The teacher can create her own story on Prezi
and allows for easy access, and the children can listen to it and read it as
many times as they see fit because its a video that can be replayed as often
as needed.
3. Podcast - The teachers involved in Early Childhood Care can use a
Podcast to enhance classroom instruction by:
(i) Once created, a podcast can be saved and replayed when necessary. This
makes the task of calling out instructions easier, and gives the teacher time
to organise herself or observe the class while the instructions are being said.
(ii). The podcast files can be easily shared with all members and saved on
most devices making accessibility and organisation easier.
(iii) An absent students parent can access the podcast to be able to better
guide their child in their homework and how to go about doing it. It saves
both parents and teachers time, money for gas and phone bills and energy
by using podcast.
(iv) During emergency situations a prepared podcast can be played over the
intercom so that the school can hear the instructions to follow while the
teachers ensure that all safety checks have been made.

2. Select (2) barriers which may inhibit the successful integration of

technology in your school and classroom and suggest ways these barriers
can be overcome.- 4 marks
Answer:
1. Internet Access - The way this can be overcome is to contact the local

communications

authorities.

Companies

such

as

Digicel

Play,

Massy

Communications and Flow can be contacted to install their internet and

intranet cables.
2. Curriculum Development - The government and leaders in Early Childhood
Education state that technology integration is vital in a young childs life
because technology is leading the world today. The barrier to integration is
the change in curriculum. The relevant authorities have not made the
curriculum technology friendly. The way that private schools can overcome
this is to create their own form of a curriculum that increases technology
learning and teaching in the Early Childhood Centre. Government schools
can make appeals to the minister of Education and even make suggestions
of how to adapt the curriculum.
3. Describe in detail to your colleagues (2) new teaching strategies that you
learnt about on the course that they can use and (2) assessment strategies
they can try when doing summative assessments at the end of a lesson. 4
marks
Answer:
1. Venn Diagrams - This strategy is used to teach similarities and differences
between two objects (3 objects can be used as well but it is a bit more
complex). The Venn diagram is drawn using 2 overlapping circles. The part
where the circles overlap are where the characteristics of the objects that are
similar to both are placed or listed. The outside of the overlap to the

respective circles are where the differing characteristics are placed or listed.

2. Peer Tutoring - This strategy is where a student who has a good

understanding of the work being discussed or taught is partnered with
another student who does not fully understand the work. This strategy helps
the teacher because now she does not need to sit with an individual child but
can rely on her students assistance. The student who is helping the other is
solidifying the information for themselves. The student who is receiving the
help may better be able to understand from his peer because they are of the
same age and the information may become more relatable. The interaction
of peer tutoring also helps to create friendships amongst the classroom as
the children are forced to interact.
