RE: Recommendation for Ms. Chenise DeLoach

To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to offer my highest recommendation for Ms. Chenise DeLoach. I have
known Ms. DeLoach since 2014 when she interviewed for an internship at Williamsville
Wellnesss. I have had the pleasure of supervising Ms. DeLoachs clinical work since
June 2015. I have had the opportunity to directly observe her clinical skills in one-to-one
sessions and I have co-lead groups with her at Williamsville, a comprehensive
residential treatment center for addiction and mental health in Hanover, VA.
I know that Ms. DeLoachs training as an intern at Williamsville Wellness is preparing
her with advanced clinical skills this year. Ms. DeLoachs experience as an intern at
Group Therapy Center in Chesterfield provided her with intermediate skills as a
therapist. Williamsville does an excellent job of preparing trainees to work clinically from
a theoretically sound base and to function within ethical and professional guidelines.
Ms. DeLoach possesses excellent clinical therapeutic skills. I had the opportunity to
supervise her clinical work with individuals and groups at Williamsville. She has
expanded and integrated her understanding of cognitive behavioral approaches
combined with reality therapy with our patients. Through supervision, we addressed her
professional development and her identity as a therapist.
I noticed early on that Ms. DeLoach possessed strength in her ability to engage the
patient and make good initial clinical assessments. She completed her clinical
paperwork in a timely manner.
Ms. DeLoachs personal strengths within the clinical realm include her professionalism
and dedication, love of learning and challenges, and natural curiosity and intellect. Ms.
DeLoach demonstrated firm knowledge, sensitivity, and understanding of diversity
issues with her clients. She developed excellent rapport with her patients and this
allowed her to utilize helpful strategies and exercises with them in the room. Ms.
DeLoach showed growth in her ability to deepen affect with her patients and move them
towards healing and growth, especially with patients who tend towards intellectual
defenses.
I directly observed Ms. DeLoachs sessions and I completed evaluations in the room. I
view Ms. DeLoachs therapeutic strengths as being her ability to conduct herself in a
very professional and courteous manner with patients. She comes across as
knowledgeable in her field and diligent in her efforts to meet her patients needs. I

very professional and courteous manner with patients. She comes across as
knowledgeable in her field and diligent in her efforts to meet her patients needs. I
noticed her skill in modifying her therapeutic style and approaches based on the
developmental and interpersonal style of her patients. She sets clear boundaries with
her patients. Ms. DeLoach is also skilled in providing treatment in a brief therapy model.
She regularly checked in with patients about their treatment goals and their experience
of counseling.
Ms. DeLoach is a skilled group therapist. She often led the psychoeducational groups
on the weekends. I observed her honing her already strong skills as a group therapist
this year during my time co-leading groups with her. Ms. DeLoach knows group work
and she engages and challenges group patients in a way that allows them to develop
insight fairly quickly.
Ms. DeLoach is extremely dedicated and organized. A perfect example of this was her
development of a comprehensive internship training manual. Ms. DeLoach put together
a volume of guidelines, exercises, and clinical activities and approaches that any
clinician can use when working with our patients. We utilized the manual when
developing clinical activities during inclement weather events. Her training manual will
serve as a lasting legacy to future interns in our center.
Interpersonally, Ms. DeLoach is genuine, intellectually inquisitive, thoughtful, and
dependable. It is a true pleasure to work with her this year at Williamsville Wellness.
She has worked well with the clinical team and other interns.
In closing, I offer my highest recommendation for Ms. Chenise DeLoach. I hope you will
agree that she has much to offer. I am happy to provide additional information about this
most outstanding applicant. You can reach me at lja214@nyu.edu or 804-559-9959
