Course of events
Recently one of our vessel had encounter boiler problem at discharge port.
Vessel reported to office both boilers cannot be put on operation at high MODE and
IGS MODE.
At LOW MODE, both boilers automation and level controller were fine. The moment
MODE is change, boiler flames becomes erratic and water level also behaving
erratically. Engineers put the feed water controller on manual still water level
(erratic behavior) could not be control. Fuel and air controller also change to SEMI
AUTO and then to manual MODE. Still flame extinguish and unable to fire
continuously for cargo discharging.
The same problem with a lesser effect was notice during the last discharging. Office
was informed during that time. The first thing asked by office the BWT treatment,
and it was been told the boiler water treatment is carried out as per the chemical
dosing guideline and all test results are within the normal range.
Same was asked on telecom, and it was confirmed the boiler water is in good state.

Office Advice
Finally technical attendance arranged, and later it was found the root cause of
erratic boiler level was poor quality of water. Salinity was high, boiler was never
scum properly. Dosing was also not as per the guide line. And on some occasion we
found the expire dosing chemical kit also. Different brand chemical is test using
different brand test kit. This unreliable test results.

Cause:
All vessels will be using Wilhemsen Chemicals for BWT and CWT.
