i. The students then go onto the
class website and use the Padlet
to post their New Years
experiences. Students have the
option to upload relevant

on a celebration they have experienced.

Lesson Two: The Chinese New Year and The


Chinese Zodiac.

Introduction

Revision of Chinese new year, class
discussion to be conducted to determine
prior knowledge and what can be
remembered from the previous lesson.
Focus for this lesson is the Chinese
Zodiac, the symbols and how they
originated.
Show video: YouTube video, Fortune
Tales: The Story of Chinese New Year.
Short discussion about video clip.

Lesson Steps:
Part 1
On IPads students to play on the
interactive App, The Emperor's Quest at
The Chinese Garden individually.
Students to identify the different zodiacs
and explore their origin.
In their groups students to create a
mindmap using Popplet detailing the 12
animals of the Chinese Zodiac and to
input one to two interesting facts about
each one.

Lesson Three: The traditions of Chinese New Year



Introduction
a) Class discussion on prior knowledge of Chinese
New Year.

Lesson Steps
b) Students are split into groups that were formed in
lesson 1, each group will be named after Chinese
Zodiac signs.
c) In the groups, students research one assigned
tradition of Chinese New Year: Lucky food, red
envelopes, lanterns, costumes and fireworks.
Students will be able to research these on their
own iPad and suggested websites will given to the
teacher.
d) In their groups students will add information to
SpiderScribe.
e) Groups will create a PicCollage to depict the
information visually they have gathered on their
SpiderScribe.
f) Students are to upload PicCollage to KidBlog and
summarise key points of their assigned tradition.
g) Students will be asked to look at other groups
post on Kidblog and comment on their favourite
saying what they learnt about the tradition.
