THINGS TO REMEMBER IN

WRITING THE SCIENCE

INVESTIGATORY PROJECT

FORMAT
Use a formal font/type face and regular font size:

Tahoma, size: 11.

Use ONLY black ink
Use a plain white short bond paper.
Use 1 1/2 inch margin - top and left, 1 inch in the
bottom and right side.
Chapters I-VI should be double-spaced.
Indent the beginning of a paragraph 5 spaces
from the left margin

PAGINATION
Page numbers should be in Arabic numerals

starting from the second page down to the last

entry of chapter VI.
Page numbers are set half inch down from the
top of each page and aligned at the right hand
margin of the text.

WRITING THE ABSTRACT

This paper should consist of short and

concise description of the purpose of the

study, the procedure used, the results and
conclusions. It must be contained on one
page, single space with a maximum of 250
words.

Used Cooking Oil as an Additive

Component of Candle
Abstract
The study aims to produce a low-priced, high-quality
candle by using used cooking oil as a major
component. The following candle compositions were
used: 100 percent paraffin wax; 90 percent paraffin
and 10 percent oil; 80 percent paraffin and 20 percent
oil; 70 percent paraffin and 30 percent oil; 60 percent
paraffin and 40 percent oil; 50 percent paraffin and 50
percent oil. The firmness, texture, and light intensity
of the candles were tested and compared.

Used Cooking Oil as an Additive

Component of Candle
Results of the tests showed that the candle made
from 100 percent paraffin wax had the lowest melting
rate, lowest amount of melted candle, and a light
intensity of 100 candelas (cd). The 90:10 preparation
had the next lowest melting rate and amount of
melted candle. The other preparations ranked
according to the proportion of used cooking oil in the
candle, with the 50:50 preparation performing least
comparably with the 100 percent paraffin wax candle.

ASSIGNMENT
Read the abstract posted on the website
(www.year9chemistry.wordpress.com).
Identify the problem, hypothesis, and
variables. Write down the methodology (in your own
words), results and conclusion.
Place them in a size one paper. Attached the print
out of the abstract.
DATE OF SUBMISSION: JUNE 28, 2010(MONDAY)

WRITING YOUR TITLE

Capitalize the first letter of each word in a title,

except conjunctions, articles and prepositions.

Use phrase rather than a sentence. The title
should be stated in a formal manner. Avoid using
fancy words.
Do not underline a title or enclose in quotation
marks.
Do not use any punctuation marks at the end of
the title.

CHAPTER IV: Analysis and

Interpretation of Data
TITLE: Kalamansi Peels Into Citro-Candy
Table & Graph
Pictures
The researchers found out that the science
concept involved in recycling kalamansi peels into
a delicious citro-candy is its nutritive value for
human nutrition. About 75% of the ascorbic acid
of this fruit is contained in the peel based from
the titration test and iodine conducted on the
extracted juice from the peelings. The pulp and
juice were also tested and it was found out that
they contain lesser amounts of ascorbic acid. The
peel based on the literature says that it contains
the highest carotenoids, around 50-75% of the
total amount of carotenoids in the fruit.

CHAPTER IV: Analysis and

Interpretation of Data
Futhermore, the vitamin C present in
kalamansi peels has specific roles in our
body:Vitamin C prevents poisoning in the
blood, prevents scurvy and helps wound
heal faster.

CHAPTER IV: Analysis and

Interpretation of Data

INTERPRETATION OF DATA:
The results show that the test tube B with
the milk and E. Coli specimen had the largest
colony of bacterial growth whereas test tube C
with milk, the E. Coli specimen and garlic extract
did not show any signs of bacterial growth. Test
tube A showed some small signs of bacterial
growth probably due to contamination during the

CHAPTER IV: Analysis and

Interpretation of Data
ANALYSIS OF DATA:
Based from the experiment done by the researchers,
it showed that garlic can retard or minimize
bacterial growth. The size of the bacterial colony
where garlic was added did not reach 10 mm.
Furthermore, based on the similar studies conducted
on fresh garlic says that it can also kill the antibioticresistant Staphylococcus aureus, and Salmonella
enteritidis in the laboratory. Thus, can help in the
prevention and possibly cure for some diseases like
gout, rheumatism, hemorrhoids, asthma, bronchitis,
fungal infections, warts, and corns.
